So if I understand this right, legislators and staff are testing at their own personal option, and only for symptoms or other strong reason to believe they might be infected. This is a way to encourage community spread among people who are stuck in close quarters together. They should be testing regularly, as should other critical infrastructure workers. (And yes, in this context, even though we make a thing of despising them, it is critical that congress be able to continue functioning.)

This should be expected. The capital complex isn’t designed for social distancing. I will be shocked if we don’t have others. Most will recover nicely but some won’t. It could get ugly.

The district stretches from Champaign to suburban St Louis. It includes Springfield and Bloomington.
With regard to testing: the solution exists, but bureaucratic barriers and outmoded concepts are in the way.
