Wherein what used to be a political party just whatevers any attempt to say what it might stand for these days. “We are,” they conclude, “whatever Donald Trump says we are.”

Thanks for the link. It is great. The article states "To make it worse, the GOP also just copied and pasted their 2016 platform without editing it. It means that an attack on the White House and the current administration was left in the copy.

“The current Administration has exceeded its constitutional authority, brazenly and flagrantly violated the separation of powers, sought to divide America into groups and turn citizen against citizen,” the platform says.

Trump owns GOP now - lock, stock and barrel…and by extension Putin owns GOP too! Note that RNC has no 2020 platform…

Given that the Republicans are saying their 2016 platform is valid again this year, it sets up some ... awkward statements in 2020.https://t.co/KZk314PFJO pic.twitter.com/CT392KzeWU

Politico has an article on the transformation from a party with ideas into a personality cult:

“Owning the libs and pissing off the media,” shrugs Brendan Buck, a longtime senior congressional aide and imperturbable party veteran if ever there was one. “That’s what we believe in now. There’s really not much more to it.”
