Kyle Rittenhouse’s defense attorney Mark Richards on Monday took aim at the multiple House Republicans who have offered an internship to his client, days after Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges related to his shooting of three people (two fatally) during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin last year.
Rittenhouse said that it will be a “fine line” where Rittenhouse decides to go.
:sigh: Pretty sure that’s supposed to be ‘Richards said…’, TPM. COPY EDITORS. Please.
Also: if Richards really is concerned about how Rittenhouse manages to deal with all of the non-legal fallout from this… honestly, have him ask Monica Lewinsky for advice. She’s been through the shit-grinder of public opinion and come out the other side stronger and wiser for it. Funny as hell, too.
One reason not to wallow in his new-found celebrity is the notable lack of remorse we’ve heard from him after taking two lives. His mom said he feels remorse, and his lawyer said so. Not him, that I know of, and I went and looked. It’s going to look strange if he goes on “Dancing with the Stars” and all that like he did something awesome. He told Tucker he wasn’t on trial, the right to defend yourself was. No it wasn’t, Kyle, you little punk weirdo. You were on trial for shooting people you didn’t really need to shoot, for having a gun you weren’t allowed to have, for being in a place you should have stayed the hell away from. This horse you rode in on, you’re too dumb to realize it just yet, but it’s not a good horse to be riding. You should listen to your counsel’s counsel on that. He’s a normal human being and that’s the kind of person you should be getting advice from right now.
There’s a lot of people who I don’t think have his best interests at heart, and probably want to make him a symbol of something I don’t think he wants to be necessarily associated with…
“Asked about the internship offers to his client during an interview on Fox News, Richards dismissed the GOP congressmen’s offers as a ‘cheap’ means to gain publicity.”
Yep. Different evidentiary standard. Very different. And I don’t entirely agree with our friends here who say oh, his deep-pocketed friends will make it all go away and he’ll be rich and never lack for a thing or have a problem ever again. I’m just not as sure. People get their fifteen minutes often enough, certainly, and we live in interesting times. But it’s sort of a universal thing that your newfound friends can melt away and there you are, a lot worse off than before. That kid used up all his luck on this round, if karma’s a thing, and I think it is.
He went off to Florida. Guess it’s a case of “Kyle Rittenhouse, your White privilege just got you acquitted on all five charges, what are you doing next?”
“I’m going to Disney World!”
Actually. he’s down there for his Tucker Carlson interview (Florida? Really?)
He was seen at Smokin’ Jerry’s Tiki Hut. The woman to his right was a contestant on ABC’s The Bachelor. She did not get a rose.
“This kid’s my meal ticket, see, and youse not getting any action for less than 7 figures, so take your fucking cheapass internship and stuff it. Talk to my agent or talk to my hand.”
I realize that I am naively idealistic, but shouldn’t a Congressperson’s interns come from their own district (if a House Representative) or from their own state (if a Senator)?!?
OT - another example of unequal handling of violence against women.
Apparently, race doesn’t matter when it comes to minimizing domestic assault. This is the guy who killed 5 and injured 40+ in Waukesha.
According to a criminal complaint, Brooks, 39, posted a $1,000 cash bail on November 11, in a case where he was accused of running over the mother of his child with a vehicle in a gas station parking lot on November 2.
