When Bob Phillips heard that a wealthy New York City gym owner was prepared to donate $1,000 to his good government organization, Common Cause North Carolina, he was elated.
Looks like the old Republican go-to tactic (If the truth wonât do, lie) has a corollary, âif behaving honorably and fairly doesnât work, be underhanded and cheat.â
It is a terrible alias. On the other hand, Iâve known people in real life with the last names of Person, Strange, and Trust. So it is definitely still hard to know from a name if itâs made up. (those ones were notâŚ)
The last part of Andrea Bernsteinâs recent Trump, Inc. podcast episode, Block the Vote, discusses secret in-person and phone meetings by officials involved in managing state elections in GOP-controlled states with DoJ officials of various stripes, DHS officials, WH lawyers, and GOP operatives. While Trump, Inc. doesnât fully untangle the storyânone of the state elections officials would talk to them about the secret meetingsâthey do manage to make a strong case that the legal strategies weâve seen (to do things like limit ballot drop off boxes to one per county) are coordinated, probably by the WH campaign lawyers. Itâs a fascinating piece of reporting and no doubt at the heart of the Trump campaignâs work on voter suppression and challenging the legitimacy of this election.
Anyways, I mention it because the attempts to create vote fraud of various kinds outlined in this article seem coordinated and I wonder if any of the state officials involved in the WHâs attempts to suppress the voteâwhich are apparently promoted to the state officials as a government project to reduce vote fraudâoverlap with any of the people/groups infiltrating Dem voter registration and GOTV groups? It seems perhaps likely that thereâs crossover, even if people like OâKeefe are kinda kept at armâs length from GOP officials.
At some point they will figure out that directly performing fraudulent acts themselves - lifting or vandalizing ballot drop boxes, or maybe dropping scores of illegal or duplicate ballots, just to gum up the works - is easier than trying to trick other people into doing it, and is just as effective to âproveâ Trumpâs claims that mail in voting is rife with fraud. Trumpâs protestations may end up being self-fulfilling, because he has an army of honorless sociopaths willing to break the law to make anything he says become truth.
Former Vice President Joe Bidenâs presidential campaign will âdispatch several hundred newly trained volunteers to engage voters across Nevada, Michigan, New Hampshire and Pennsylvaniaâ this weekend and is expected to expand the effort into other battleground states, The Associated Press reports. The campaign previously held off on in-person canvassing efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
