“I don’t care if Herschel Walker paid to abort endangered baby eagles,” Dana Loesch
This is utterly horrible on fourteen levels, but I’m particularly astounded by the subtle move of acting like doing away with a “baby eagle” is an even-worse outrage.
“So Herschel, you admit to having paid a woman to have a “baby” killed, but you’ve redeemed yourself by fathering a substantial number of live ones with random partners since?”
For the GOP saying something does not require that you actually have to believe it (perish the thought!). The discussion around abortion is a classic example.
In the GOP canon there is no “belief” that is so absolute and committed that it can’t be set aside in order to gain power. This is a classic issue of keeping your real priorities in clear view.
Repugs keep trying to focus on the economy. Will they never get it through their thick skulls that NOTHING the government can do will harm my personal finances anywhere near as much as them taking away my ability to decide whether, when, and how many children to have?
“Well, sure, all celebrities send cards to complete strangers. In fact, you know what? Herschel’s going through a tough time right now, so let me just get this down real quick: ‘Dear Herschel, get well — you know what? Get [expletive], Stephen.” — STEPHEN COLBERT
“I mean, this woman says that she has a receipt, a check, and a get-well card that he signed. The only way there could be more of a paper trail is if he bought a souvenir T-shirt from the abortion clinic’s gift shop.” — TREVOR NOAH
They have no deeply held convictions. Cynical political calculus masquerading as deeply held convictions is the whole game. Constitutional originalism, family values, law & order, voter fraud, and the whole kettle of fish is nothing but pretext.
their anti-abortion stance are excused, both in the media and broader political landscape, by the idea that they earnestly believe that the procedure is taking an innocent life. But if they truly think that Walker had facilitated the murder of a child, it’s hard to see them brushing it off as an old story, or a negative that doesn’t outweigh the economic benefits of Republican leadership.
The same party that has members breathlessly reading Qanon about pedo rings that must be destroyed and supports Matt Gaetz isn’t going to have difficulty with this.
