Energy Secretary Rick Perry, whose involvement in the Ukraine scandal is becoming steadily clearer, would not commit Wednesday to complying with a House subpoena related to his role in the scheme.
The Department of Energy general counsel will huddle with the White House counsel and go through the process of stonewalling and cover-up and saying “No way.”
What does your personal counsel have to say, Mr. Smart Glasses? Because you’d better have one … or a few.
Perry is a fool if he doesn’t comply, at least so far he seems on the periphery of what was going on. At most, he may have ben involved in trying to install people to run the Ukrainian LNG industry and get gas from Texas in there…that helps his friends and donors, so it’s a bit corrupt (more so if he was going to get a kickback or position in the company), but it’s not trying to overturn the next election corruption. Someone like him could weasel out of any punishment over whatever he might have been involved in, especially if he plays dumb (which he’s pretty good at ).
Going along with Rudy and Trump on blocking the investigation loops him into the dirty dealing, and that’s not going to turn out well for any of them, based on what we know now. The first person to make a deal always gets the best deal, that’s where he should be thinking.
Except the Democrats are being smart, they are holding private hearings and keeping the details close. The Republicans may be trying to leak details out, but they can’t leak it all, and without transcripts it’s very easy for someone to screw up and tell a lie. If these are under oath, and not honest mistakes, then they risk serious penalties for lying to Congress. It’s another reason Republicans are pushing for open hearings, they want to be able to get the stories straight and have access to all the evidence so they can plan their lies out ahead of time.
This administration is a Republican maid wiping down the family photographs with a filthy sodden sponge.
Sure, the water is toxic, but now the portrait of Andrew Jackson looks less racist, Nixon, less of a war criminal - and what’s that? The picture of George W. Bush is now shown to be NOT the stupidest man ever elected to office.
Of course not, because Rick Perry is a weak-willed idiot. As most anyone in Texas could tell you.
Hey Rick, maybe you should think about doing something about getting those 50+ nukes out of Turkey before Erdogan decides to just take them, not least because your boss just called him a fool in a letter he has now publicly released?
Governor Goodhair continues to demonstrate what happens when you miss that first step on the ladder when climbing out of your jet airplane after taking off your helmet and discovering that an airport tarmac is indeed made of hard concrete.
But since he was an Aggie, and a Texan, the scrambling of his brains went unnoticed.
