Per CNN Secretary of the Navy John Phelan has resigned “ effective immediately “. Hard to know what to think of that, he was a Trump supporting businessman with no military experience so totally unqualified for the job to begin with. I am a person of reasonable intelligence. I wouldn’t be shocked if Patel literally has spent more time in a nightclub, bar, tailgate, downing beers at the Olympics, etc. than in an FBI office building. Maybe MS Now should ask the court to let the trial proceed so we can get discovery on our FBI Director’s whereabouts and level of sobriety.

Yes, he said the US Navy would not commit to building any more Ford class carriers until the mess with the current ship is investigated. That news was reported this morning. My guess this has more with the fact that the US Navy is powerless to open the Strait of Hormuz to free shipping without a LOT more effort than seems feasible right now.
Trump needs to make a deal, which likely includes an apology and reparations, to Iran to get them to play nice, or the Persian Gulf will be bottled up indefinitely.

Makes about as much sense as you could possibly hope for out of this administration. And fits in with Josh’s editorial earlier about Iran’s strength in the current situation. It doesn’t really matter what our Navy does, the true advantage is in the geography that isn’t changing. Maybe Phelan is just seeing what’s coming and getting out now

I think we can make an educated guess: Trump is blaming him for the mess Trump has made in the Straight of Hormuz, and for not somehow getting the Navy to magically fix it. Trump cannot fail — he can only BE failed. So under the bus he goes!
