Fox is trying to get on the McCarthy hype train, with some commentary and interviews which question why the MAGA 21 need to defer to the McCarthy 200. However, on CNN I saw a clip of one of McCarthy’s backers acknowledging that McCarthy might have to go because he can’t get to 218. Ken Buck has also said McCarthy has to start persuading folks among the MAGA 20 or he’ll flip and vote against McCarthy for Speaker. My guess is McCarthy has maybe a week to fix this or he’s out. The smart thing the MAGA 21 group is doing is signaling that they could get behind a number of other ‘not McCarthy’ candidates. A lot of that may be BS, but their point is to make McCarthy seem expendable and then the different factions can deal with each other on equal terms once he’s gone. While Team McCarthy may have stopped worse bleeding yesterday, I still think he’s in big trouble and now we’re seeing signs of a finite limit of attempts for him to get this right.
I also believe the Gaetz led MAGA 21 could not function this effectively without the backing of silent partners, like Scalise and Jordan, who want McCarthy out but don’t want their fingerprints on the body. IoW, no one is really going after the MAGA 21. There is tacit support for what they are doing. We’ll see if McCarthy is able to reduce the number of defectors today (if there are votes taken), but I think the bar has actually been set at 218 and if he doesn’t achieve that say within 1 week, he’ll be out.

I used to think that he was boring, but I really fell in love with our Senator Casey during this last election cycle. He really came through for Pennsylvanians, and he campaigned his heart out for both Fetterman and Shapiro.

As much as I fear speaker Scalise Stefanik or Sessions, I do love seeing Liz Cheney getting her revenge. Her secret recordings of Mccarthy saying different things in private to different people are what is really driving the intransigence of the never-Kevin movement.
