In their endless quest to further defang the Voting Rights Act and gerrymander their way into permanent control, Republican officials have launched a double-headed attack on the landmark civil rights law.
As they’ve already indicated that they’re willing to die on this hill, let’s make it happen! Figuratively - at the ballot box, up and down the ticket in 2024.
Frist! Okay, not frist! Republicans prove again they don’t care about Democracy, rule of law or the Constitution. They are willing to defy the courts because they want to stay in power by any and all means.
Brazen enough? They don’t give a damn, acccording to the fascist cult only fascists are qualified to say who is entitled to vote.
And furthermore, in their view
only the U.S. attorney general — not individual voters represented by good government groups, as is most common — can bring lawsuits under the section of the law concerning illegal vote dilution.
not only do they screw voters, those voters are not allowed to complain about it.
“If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy."
– David Frum
“Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.”
– Frank Wilhoit
At this point, how people still vote in the millions for these deplorables is beyond my comprehension. It’s taken a lot to unwind my own self-deception that we were better than that, as a nation. I still hope we are, but I can’t say that I believe it.
We may complain after we give our addresses so heavily armed weenies in camouflage, flack jackets and helmets may threaten children.
Also accompanied by the local preacher.
So about that 1st Amendment and the right to petition government for redress of grievances is the right to make a complaint to, or seek the assistance of, one’s government, without fear of punishment or reprisals .
Doesn’t say it’s limited to the DoJ. Doesn’t limit which things we can petition. What say you, Founding Fathers?
