Republicans Insist Trump Was Just Kidding About Getting China To Investigate Biden

Does make me have to rethink my reasoning on why MoscowMitch pressed Trump to release the transcript… Did he do that on the express orders from his handlers in Moscow…

Was the plan to release a sanitized version of the conversation while stashing the real transcript in secret space?

No, I mean go read the article in the post I responded to.

Zelensky is not happy that his side of the conversation was also released, not just what Trump said.

It weakens his stance and hurts him, thus playing into Putin’s hands as negotiations over Eastern Ukraine go forward.

It’s been a questionmark why MoscowMitch encouraged Trump to release the transcript. This would explain that.

I do know he loves to bait the press and he does that almost every day to see what you’ll talk about.

So, the press incited the treason because Trump just has to see how the press will react to treason.

Is there a name for the phase of a typical RICO prosecution where the accused finally put their fig leaves to the test?

Trump’s Rethuglican “colleagues” are becoming as imbecilic as Trump is, especially Gym Jordan and Ron Johnson.

All an incredibly elaborate piece of performance art.

Nixon and most Republicans were still insisting “Nothing to see here” after the transcript came out where he and Dean discussed $1 million in cash to keep the cover-up going.

That’s about where we are now with Trump.

In Nixon’s case it took even more damaging tapes turned over several months later to tip congressional Republicans against him.

And?

Joking about taking a bomb on a plane is also a felony.

I recommend that Trump sign a full confession, and then tell us that he was just joking.

Trump and Andy Kaufman both did wrestling bits, so you might be onto something.

Its the Kayfabe presidency.

To tip a few congressional Republicans against him. The majority never supported impeachment, but the Democrats held a comfortable majority so that few was all they needed. Nixon’s polling numbers among Republicans never fell below 60% approval (IIRC).

A. Load. Of. Shit.

BREAKING: Trump now claims to have been “joking” when he linked aid to Ukraine with his demand that it investigate the Bidens–which at the same time he claimed of course he didn’t do.

“I was just kidding when I said that thing that I actually didn’t say!”.

Yet more “locker room talk”, it seems.

This is a pretty standard Trump joke – looked serious at the time but never intended to be long term – like all his wedding vows. Ridiculous of us to think he was serious.

These Republicans are trying to play the “Trump was joking” card at the same time as Trump is calling for Adam Schiff’s arrest for treason over joking. It feels like there’s a bit of a disconnect here.

I think it was more than a few. Even before the last batch of tapes came out, including the (final) smoking gun, 7 of 17 Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee voted for at least one article of impeachment.

After the final tapes, when Goldwater and two other Republican leaders met with him to tell him he was through, Nixon asked how many votes he had in the Senate, and Goldwater supposedly told him, “Not many, and not mine.”

Here’s a dramatic account of the final days by the Times from just a few days after he resigned. It tells how Nixon dead-enders like Charles Wiggins in the House and Senate Republican whip Robert Griffin finally turned against him after getting previews of the final tapes from Nixon lawyer James St. Clair and chief of staff Alexander Haig.
