Nearly three months after the head of Michigan’s Republican Party unveiled an audacious plan that would allow GOP legislators to circumvent the state’s Democratic governor’s veto to pass restrictive voting laws, the contours of the scheme remain murky.
I’ll believe Republicans are serious about voter id to prevent fraud the day they support a national ID card issued free of charge to all Americans by the Social Security Administration.
Don’t be silly. Republicans aren’t racist or discriminatory about their beliefs, they believe everyone who votes Democratic, regardless of race, gender, religion or other, should not vote or not have it counted.
“Now I will tell you the answer to my question. It is this. The Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others; we are interested solely in power, pure power. What pure power means you will understand presently. We are different from the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we are doing. All the others, even those who resembled ourselves, were cowards and hypocrites. The German Nazis and the Russian Communists came very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended, perhaps they even believed, that they had seized power unwillingly and for a limited time, and that just around the corner there lay a paradise where human beings would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it. Power is not a means; it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now you begin to understand me.” ― George Orwell, 1984
George Orwell wasn’t some genius forward-thinking individual, he was a plagiarist with a time machine, just copied articles from the trump era and passed them off as his own original work.
The penalties for voter fraud serve as a deterrent. If any legislature is truly interested in securing the vote, they need to increase the penalties and have solid (perhaps automatic) audits after every election to sift out actual fraud.
Thanks for this. Sue the bastards. Their actions are so egregious, I think we have a good chance of prevailing. Gotta hand it to Mitch and the Koch Bros. Wouldn’t you know they’d find a way to sabotage Biden in the form of some hick from WV bought and paid for. Where do we donate coupla bucks?
