Republicans Float White House’s South Lawn For Trump Convention Speech | Talking Points Memo

Republican National Convention planners, seeking to make up for a convention with much less of the pomp of the past, are now considering the South Lawn of the White House as a backdrop to President Donald Trump as he delivers his nomination acceptance speech, the Washington Post reported.

Seems to me if voting in person is safe then the convention is safe.

He should go the convention and give his speech. I am sure his mask-less supporters will appreciate he is there.

Edit: as per @jstrummer suggestion, snark alert!

Wait — what?!? Or, more precisely, What. The. Absolute. Fuck?!?

Isn’t partisan campaigning and fundraising at the White House illegal? Remember the whole Lincoln Bedroom scandal? OK, the Hatch Act exemptions, but this is so, so wrong.

I know Trump and his enablers could not care less about the the law, tradition, and protocol, but this is too far. The White House belongs to us, not him. It’s not Mar-A-Grifto North.

Good idea! He can do his concession speech from there as well!

A string of outdoor speeches

That’s the ticket!

But a move to hold a convention speech on White House grounds would break with precedent to at least attempt to distinguish between official presidential business and campaign events.

A distinction without a difference, his entire presidency has been nothing but one long campaign event.

“…and costs incurred by the government to host the events would be repaid.”

Right after Porcine Airlines picks up a gross of snowballs from this Lucifer guy.

Just to fill in the blanks here, that was snark. Sorry forgot to mention that.

Well I am all for this. First, if we get lucky, it will rain. Second, everyone connected to this will get charged with hatch act violations, as with the use of the Lincoln memorial. Only trump has immunity, the rest of them don’t.

All I really care about in Biden’s cabinet is ag. I want massive prosecutions of everyone who engaged in illegal acts.

I didn’t realize the agriculture secretary had that kind of power. But I’m with you. Throw the farm at him!

Now Trump Campaign do not need to pay for security, venue etc as WH and surrounding areas already have them!

Grifting AGAIN…

Just remember that when Trump/Rethugs “floats something”…
Mainstreet pays the price!

Addendum:

Another Hatch Act violation…

Barr has so debased the department of justice, that it is impossible to write his title with capital letters. Count on the next ag to make it the AG again.

Human Resources rule no. 1 in the Trump White House: If you’re not violating the Hatch Act, you’re not doing your job.

I’m sure the crowd on the Lawn will be interesting. Festivities will be capped by roasting Simon over an open fire pit…

Aren’t they still supposed to reimburse the government for the cost of the campaign event?

Since the White House is valued (unoffically) at $400M, that should be the cost of delivering it as a prop.

How about the basement bunker instead?

Well, after the speech maybe trump can class things up with an order of hamberders…
