With some votes from the 2023 election still being tallied, the top Republican candidates not named Donald Trump are preparing for their third, smallest-yet debate in Miami.

Heels’ get it?

Wait, is the headline writer talking about Haley or Desantis?

Again I have to laugh bitterly at these 11th hour genteel attacks from DeSaster about Trump’s gaffes, for instance. The only one who has any real fight in him, Christie, is going nowhere and the rest just never had the guts and foresight to declare Trump the loser that he is from the jump.

Re Trump’s not being there, I’d forgotten about this, but NPR’s report on the debate reminded me that, in addition to meeting pooling requirements, all participants have to sign a document in which they agree to support the eventual nominee. Trump has still not signed such a document.

By this point, it should be getting easier to tell which of these remaining “candidates” for the nomination are really just angling for the VP spot on Trump’s ticket. Not DeSantis, not Christie, and I don’t see Trump wanting Ramaswamy by his side, so that just leaves Haley and Scott. Which leaves Haley.

Imagine being Nikki Haley and angling for the job of Trump’s VP?

Those who think she has any dignity or gravitas are greatly mistaken.

I honestly think the best outcome for Republicans would be for Donald Trump to lose big in 2024. Then they can FINALLY move on, as there is no chance 82-year old Trump will get the nomination again in 2028 after 3 straight popular vote losses. Biden will be term-limited and it is very hard for the same political party to win 3 consecutive presidential elections, so whoever gets the GOP nomination in ‘28 will be well-positioned.

I’m looking forward to TPM’s coverage because I won’t watch this debate and puke on my TV.

TFG is not going to pick any of them as his VP. By running against him they are “disloyal.” He is going to pick someone based on “loyalty.”

Not gonna happen. Assuming he loses the electoral college (because we all know he ain’t gonna win the popular vote), we’ll be four more years of THE ELECTION WAS STOLEN, PLEASE GIVE.

The only way the Republican Party will move on from Trump is when he’s 20+ years in the ground and every last MAGAt is pushing up dandelions with him.

There is a very good chance he’ll be in prison or some equally restrictive form of house arrest after he loses the 2024 election. Maybe even before then. Prisoners don’t get to run fundraising schemes.

Of course his kids and other grifters will run fundraisers, but it isn’t going to help the US’s Felon-in-Chief Trump in any way.

He will be St Donald joining St Ronald in the gop pantheon.

Why stop there?

The lost cause is perpetual, except the MAGAts are much dumber and more substanceless still.

I don’t think you guys understand that Trump isn’t the only problem with the GOP. They are funded by a handful of very greedy and very dim rich guys who are trying like hell to delude enough of the population to win an election. That doesn’t go away when Trump departs the scene. Right now their chances rest with the White Nationalist Christian movement. That is a more diverse group than you would imagine but the part with the most organization is the evangelical Christian church. They want power to advance the “Christian” agenda of Mike Johnson. Most of us don’t like those smug born again judgmental assholes. Mike Johnson is going to prove the gift to the Democrats that keeps on giving. But Trump’s departure won’t end the “Christian” Taliban.
