ISTR Republicans claimed they would be “the adults in the room” during the first Trump maladministration. They were ineffectual on that front pretty much as expected but did give it some lip-service instead of excusing or ignoring it as they do now.
What they imagine is going on as they talk themselves into bondage I can’t imagine but I do know I do not want to be along for the ride. Life can be challenging enough without being forced to live in someone else’s delusion.

This seems to be one of the main things the country’s founders just never imagined – that you’d have hundreds of people who fought to get themselves into power, and then just hand all that power over to one bully. The founders generally seemed to truly think that legislators would cherish the powers given to Congress by the Constitution and want to keep those powers for themselves. But no…for some reason, today’s Republicans don’t seem to give a crap about that …Apparently they’re getting something they value more than their Constituional powers by giving in to Trump, but to me what that valuable something is kind of a mystery…
I guess part of is being able to keep your somewhat cushy job and title. But I find it hard to see how that could be the only major motivation. Are they getting better money offers from Trump-loving donors and figuring they can skim that money off? Are most of them actually full members of the MAGA cult and thus devoted to everything Donny proposes? Or had the Republicans developed into a group prior to Donny that absolutely will no longer tolerate a government that’s left of center at all? The whys of it just remain a huge WTF to me. Especially when you’ve long had various Democrats saying that, behind closed doors, numerous Republicans have whispered to them that they don’t really go along with everything or even the majority of things that Trump does … Yet…they pretty unanimously keep actively capitulating …
