GOP Lays Groundwork to Blame Dems It’s dangerous for President Trump to start a war that most of his constituents don’t want. It’s politically dangerous; only the youngest Americans haven’t seen up close how an unpopular Middle Eastern war can drag down a presidency. And it’s physically dangerous. Six American servicemembers have already been killed in…
The rhetoric has changed from “no boots on the ground” to “maybe boots on the ground” to “we don’t have boots in the region yet”. If this ends up as a ground war, Republican talking points won’t mean shit. MAGA will act excited about this farce until the moment they’re expected to actually participate.
long range nuclear weapons = WMD of the Bush era.
And boy does he like to make up stuff so he can brag and puff out his chest (verses the belly).
Perhaps the Democrats should introduce a Bill to repeal the Tax Cuts of the BBB. In order to pay for this war of choice by the GOP.
If anybody is going to be blamed for revenge attempts by Iranians or related terrorist groups, there is no way Republicans can pin the blame on Democrats. Resist the call to circle the wagons against the enemies we created. Blame the Republicans for starting a war. They DID start it.
The reality is President Trump started the war unilaterally
I seriously doubt that it was unilateral… YES no Democrats and possibly Most Republicans in congress were not consulted, but you can bet that the Billionaire club that supports TRUMP was consulted… how else could they have placed their bets on when the war would start.
The only sense in which it wasn’t unilateral was the coordination with Netanyahu for the decapitation strike on Khamenei. However, it was Trump’s sole decision to go or not go, even with Netanyahu pushing for it.
As for the billionaire club, maybe some of them were advised for insider trading and portfolio protection. But being advised is not the same thing as being consulted on the decision to go to war. It was Trump’s decision, he owns it.
The horrifying danger here is that Trump goes with nukes at some point. He badly wanted to use them during his first term (‘If we have them, why don’t we use them…?)
Yes. A week ago, I read (here?) that he’d repeatedly asked about using nuclear weapons in the last week or so.
Can President Trump and Republicans in Congress make Iran and Iraq US states? We should unite them and make them a single state with 2 members in the Senate. Such a military acquisition would improve our national security and we could take their oil, which is very high quality. It would also prevent the emergence new jihadi terrorist groups like ISIS and Taliban, which occurred in our earlier military adventures.
Two reasons I believe he won’t push that button:
IIRC, we have at least one submarine out there with some new version of low yield “tactical” nukes, and a few vintage dumb bombs stored in a few NATO bases in Europe. But our main nuclear arsenal is a few hundred ICBM city busters, with multiple reentry warheads on each missile. That’s overkill for anything other than turning Tehran into a glass parking lot. And we’re concerned about a hundred or so Iranian civilian deaths already?
The other reason is that the minute Trump uses either a low-yield tactical nuke or a city buster, Putin will nuke Kiev and any other target he wants in Ukraine.
“Our country itself would be under threat. And it was very nearly under threat. I was very proud to have knocked out the Iran Nuclear Deal by President Barack Hussein Obama that was a horrible, horrible, dangerous document.”
I love how he threw in Obama’s middle name as if we all didn’t know it. But he has to throw his base some red meat but there’s no going around this, it is Trump’s War.
My instinct on this will be the DHS funding. We’re at war and the Dems are ‘holding up funding that would protect the Homeland (a term I absolutely hate, but has become part of the narrative)’.
Our president is controlled by Israel, who have the Epstein tapes, Russia who have their own sex tapes of Trump, Saudi Arabia who have given the Trump family billions and the parasitic wealthy who are raping and plundering America. Trump does not represent the majority in America. America is the dog being wagged by the tails created by a philanderer and a bribe taker, this is exactly why you do not allow a compromised individule to take office.
Hussein is the dog-whistle. The Right’s been using that for years.
Heck, he wanted to use them on hurricanes!
There was talk yesterday that, as to timing, Netanyahu was going to go with the decapitation strike, and if Trump wanted to get to play war games and take credit, he needed to go along. Is that still the story?
To generalize, if any nation deploys a tactical nuclear weapon, it will unleash other parties to react in predictable and unpredictable ways. (No one is going to launch an intercontinental strike. We don’t call it mutually assured destruction for nothing.)
So we’ll just call him a puppet, and let him off the hook for what he’s doing? I believe that’s the wrong approach. He owns this, he did it himself through a combination of narcissistic personality disorder and greed. And the entire Republican party enabled him.
That’s the message we need to defeat the R’s in Congress in the midterm elections. We won’t get anywhere blaming foreign adversaries or oligarch money for what he’s doing.
A horrible, horrible, dangerous document in which Iran agreed to limit its nuclear arms program. A horrible, horrible, dangerous document that Trump tore up, which resulted in Iran resuming its nuclear arms program.
“Now see what you made me do.” - Trump to Iran, probably.
