Republican Presidential Candidates Show What A Dangerous Issue Abortion Is For Them

One of the first things that catches my attention about a candidate is when they answer any question by addressing the issue they want to be talking about, rather than addressing the question that was asked. It is one of the most obvious political dodges, and a real “tell” about a candidate.

Then, of course, there is The Donald, who will spew about anything on his deranged mind regardless of what question might have been asked.

…And is an attempt at cuteness, but I can’t imagine anyone was fooled by that sassy comment. BTW, I couldn’t help put notice that she referred to the VP by first name but not the President. Maybe she has a problem with women being in important positions?

And now that they have Dodd (their dog finally caught the car) they had to look for another reason for the poors to vote against their own self-interest, and so voila they settled on "Let’s hate on LGBTQ with special nastiness for trans people.

Sickening, really

Joe and Kamala should hold a press conference with OB-GYN doctors and other medical officials to make it clear that late term abortions occur when the fetus is not viable or the mother’s life is endangered. Most of the American morons won’t understand it but the statistics will show that what said morons think is wrong. Katie Porter should use her whiteboards. Maybe a few will understand that they have been deceived by the right wing.

We need to tie their abortion millstone to every rightist candidate from city councilman to presidential candidates. Every time, in every commercial, in every debate, in every town hall, and every time they appear in public we need to press them about abortion.

As has been said many times, the overwhelming support by White Evangelicals for Donald “grab her by the …” Trump proves that “values” in front of the word voter is and has always been code for race.

That is I disagree and think most Evangelicals don’t much care about abortion. Rather it has been used as code for their own and a way to expand support for some of the most immoral policies to Catholics who truly are anti-abortion.

But I agree with the rest of your post that for 40 years Republicans have been buying power on a credit card of outlawing abortion and now the debt has come due.

That is what has changed by Dobbs is that those voting on the abortion issue are majority in favor of abortion access. Prior to Dobbs, while most people favored legal abortion, those who actually voted on the issue were against abortion.

The real task for Republicans is to find a system, leaving it to the states may actually work, that restricts rights only to poor women but otherwise allows for women of some means to still have access to reproductive freedom. The problem is I doubt “leaving it to the states” satisfies the true believers.

The real test will be if the Republican candidate continues to get more than 50% of the White woman vote, Trump got 54% in 2020. If Republicans get less than 50% of the White woman vote in 2024 they will lose biggly.

HOW CAN DOJ POSSIBLY CHARGE ME, WHO DID NOTHING WRONG, WHEN NO OTHER PRESIDENT’S WERE CHARGED, WHEN JOE BIDEN WON’T BE CHARGED FOR ANYTHING, INCLUDING THE FACT THAT HE HAS 1,850 BOXES, MUCH OF IT CLASSIFIED

  1. This is completely fabricated number – the number of Biden docs is about million times exaggerated, there were two or three dozen documents. In truth Trump had many more documents.

  2. Biden had no knowledge that they were among his papers, while Trump is on tape saying he was keeping them even though he knew it was illegal.

  3. Trump has clearly lost/hidden/sold some of the docs he had in his possession, such as the one referenced in point #2.

I’m guessing that their actual answer is that it should be between a woman and her doctor under the parameters imposed by the Supreme Court a half century ago.

They are talking about doctors deciding (generally in previous consultation with the pregnant women since today we can easily see what’s going on with a pregnancy) to not use extraordinary means (Catholic wording) to prolong the life and suffering of an infant with problems exceeding the capabilities of modern medicine to address and who is not going to be able to go on living for long.

Cases like that are clear. A century ago, or probably in primitive circumstances elsewhere in the world today, a doctor or midwife might decide that a newborn’s deformities were too much for any quality of life and take active measures to end it without anyone (or anyone who would disagree) knowing.

The problem is that Tapper didn’t call it out. She claimed that Democrats are fine with abortion at 38 weeks, and he just let the lie go.

Yes! It’s maddening that they’ve been using this lie for years with no pushback! And when she says that there are exceptions for mother’s life, nobody pushes back with the fact that there are no exceptions for mother’s health, and miscarrying women are being sent home to get sick enough that the death exception is in play. Doctors in danger of felony charges aren’t taking chances.
