Someone please tell Miller that pregnant women don’t get to pick the exact timing of when they give birth (as his example of the cruise ship docked in the US for an hour suggests). Then tell that to some women who’ve been in labor for 24 hours or more, after which a bunch of them should get a private audience with Miller. We’ll see who leaves that meeting intact.

This rightwing freakout isn’t over any radical change: Birthright citizenship is the STATUS QUO.
It’s been in the US Constitution since the Fourteenth Amendment in 1868.
Since SCOTUS removed any possible question, through Wong Kim Ark, in 1898.
When today’s Republicans claim the status quo – the freaking status quo – will “destroy America,” think about what that really means…
It means the America that existed for 250 years before they came along isn’t the “America” they have in mind. Their America is something else – a dark, seething, hellish un-America – that’s plain for all to see.

There’s your tell. All the “they never intended for it to apply to everyone going forward no matter what” is just code for “they only intended it to apply to then-current slaves and white people.”
Had “allegiance” been a core principle of it, there were thousands of PROVEN TRAITORS who they could have kicked right out. Guaranteed. They didn’t. Reality is, we should have murdered all of them and ended their bloodlines so the issue would never come up again like it has. They STILL refuse to assimilate.

That is pretty much the zone a lot of my thinking covers when these people come front and center. It is not just a fantasy of what they think the old days were like. It is a total fabrication. They don’t simply want to force us into their views of what the laws of the land are, they want to make us buy into their fantasy.
However, looking at Davis’ list of what to do, I am not too concerned with him. He might look like a thinker with his position at the Federalist Society, but his words prove he is a few steps short of hanging out under overpasses and offending everyone with his ranting and body odor. But in opposing all of this, we need to make people like him, the poster child for their cause.

Last is Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX), who admittedly proposed a 10-year immigration moratorium, but at least did it in a tone that’s more racist uncle at Thanksgiving and less Stormfront message board.
But at least this guy will have a nice 4th.
