Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is planning to retire, NBC’s Pete Williams and CNN report.
Ready for Republicans to complain that Biden shouldn’t nominate a successor this close to the end of his term?
Thank God.
Dreading the crap that will come out of the Right about Joe’s nominee, no matter who it is, but particularly because it will be a woman of color.
Thank you Justice Breyer for putting the country first and retiring before you are ready so that your seat may be filled by a sane and competent successor.
Who will Manchin and Sinema appoint to the Supreme Court?
The Justice has decided he can no longer listen to the bullshit from the crazies anymore. It’s a younger man/women’s problem to endure.
As i posted on the Morning Memo thread, it’s likely to be Ketanji Brown Jackson, currently sitting on the Court of Appeals.
She’s spectacularly well-qualified, and having four women on the court—even if one of them is Justice Handmaid’s Tale—is a game-changer in several ways.
Sinema to insist on Ted Cruz as replacement.
Justice Thomas? Why don’t you follow suit.
Like now.
Breyer’s former clerk, Ketanje Brown Jackson is the heir apparent according to @thunderclapnewman.
She’s Harvard but a public defender and appellate attorney, not a prosecutor.
Does this mean we will have a mock draft like the NFL so every poster and pundit can make a list?
trolls will be trolls
That will get all the rethug votes.
This is obviously bad news for Biden.
This is great news.
He is more likely to die of COVID, er…a pneumonia attack, than retire. Ginnie wants him there serving her neoConfederate autocratic needs.
With one notable exception, Sinema has voted with Biden 99.9% of the time.
That’s one of the reasons she was elevated to the Court of Appeals.
Apparently, the other possibility is California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger.
