Democrats would need four Republicans to join them on a vote to alter the rules to allow witness testimony.

Well, that’s assuming that no Democrats defect.

I’m looking at you, Joe Manchin.

McSally, Tillis, Collins…once you get to 4, you’ll prob get to 6-7 and then look out Romney’s walking up to the White House to give Orange Foolius the coldest plate of revenge ever served.

Come on Madam Speaker, fill in that Straight Flush!

I’m skeptical, if only because this White House does not truly prepare for anything.

Keep saying and tweeting lies and crazy shit, Trump.

That’ll help. I promise.

If this were to actually happen, none of us will know how to act, what to say, we’ll be in shock. Won’t hold out much hope, but if it does, yahoo!

… and then what? Trump exercises fictionalized ā€œexecutive prerogativeā€ forbidding said individuals to discuss ā€œprivileged mattersā€ … and takes it to court … then what?

I’d have to see you in order to tell.

I am cynical, but somewhat idealistic. When will people in this Congress come to their senses?

Those defections won’t last long unless they are among Senators who’ve already decided not to run in November and have nothing to lose.

@callmeeric, I could see Bolton testifying, for better or for worse, and then Manchin moving the goalposts because it wasn’t a ā€˜perfect’ testimony.

I don’t believe the guy as far as I can throw him.

Their preparation will be for Trump to demand that the witnesses the Democrats call say nothing due to ā€œabsolute privilegeā€, and then expect Roberts and the SC to back him up, followed by Republicans getting the Bidens, Schiff, and whoever else on the stand. It’s complete garbage for them to go for this, but I expect them to block any witnesses, either through the vote or by other means…proper testimony by witnesses who know what Trump did is going to end either with massive shock against Trump or perjury by the witness, there’s no other way it would go. Republicans will do everything they can to make sure the American people aren’t confronted with witnesses, because they know they are doomed otherwise.

I think it’s a plot to get the dems to think that maybe it’d be ok to start the trial without knowing if witnesses will be called.

Let’s not forget the Speaker threw down the gauntlet yesterday. If Republicans want to have a perfunctory trial, she’ll call Bolton, and perhaps others, to the a House to testify. Just a little something for them to mull over.

It’s not as if the House can’t go back and continue their investigation, though it’s not their preference to be sure.

I can see Manchin voting for witnesses (as most Americans want), then voting against conviction, depending on which way the wind is blowing, to pacify his WV constituents.
