I agree…she wasn’t a traitor but she was dumb as a rock. If you watch the video of her last minutes you have to ask yourself…was this suicide by cop? The crowd she was in made it to the Mother Lode…the place where the Reps were located. You could see a few Democratic ones through the windows before the dirt bag in the dark shirt cracked them. To the far left a plain cloths cop can be seen with his weapon drawn and pointed at the ready. Some asshole breaks out a small window on the right and Babbitt being small decides she’s going in. If she had made it she could have opened those doors and gave the mob full access to the Hose Members inside. As she begins to climb thorough the window tactical officers with M10’s and riot gear can be seen at the far right. As Babbitt makes her way through the broken window the Cop inside shoots and she falls back grabbing her neck. She’s soon dead.
Had she got in…and opened those doors allowing mayhem in that chamber there would have been bodies all over the place. That’s why the tactical officers were there. Their job is to shoot. You can’t tell if Babbitt was warned about the man with the gun. If not her colleagues killed her because several can be heard mentioning the gun…before she was shot.
Not a traitor but either dumb as hell or so reckless a lack of concern for what happened to her is justified. After all…“she should have complied”…ever heard that before?

It’s what has convinced me that it is time (before the next Presidential election) to become an expat. Between voter restrictions in “swing” states and the Supreme Court decisions, we are headed for GQP national rule. They’ve already shown they will do whatever is required to take power.
I will wish you all luck from an actual democracy that doesn’t spend tax money on warships and bombs.

I think the question that will be raised at trial is “does he know that he is lying”? HIs defense will be “well that’s what I heard, or that’s what I was told”.

There is a black man in SC that was shot for complying too quickly, at least justice was done when the trooper went to prison.

Grurbert. Asked the kid for ID…the kid reached for it and the Cop shot him in the gut. Knew right away he was fucked for doing so and he was. He should have been jailed.

Trooper Groubert was sentenced to jail in 2015, he did plead guilty.

Be that as it may, Ashli Babbitt was an active participant in an attack upon the members of Congress of both parties, in short, a violent insurrection, and when shot, she was leading the breach of the final threshold of the House Gallery. She was committing a violent, criminal act. What happened to her, while regrettable, was an appropriate use of force under the circumstances.

I’m not sure if she was shot in the shoulder or the neck, but his claim that she was shot in the head also seems deliberately inflammatory. I guess he could have been more inflammatory if he had said that she was shot in the breast, but my guess is that he usually refers to that body part by a different name.

Some police reported weapons in the crowd, and with that crowd I’m sure they assumed that there were many concealed weapons. The police were outnumbered 100 to 1, at least, and if they opened up on the crowd the ones carrying guns would have shot back. It would have thinned out the ones who were not serious, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more weapons with the insurrectionists…the police probably had better strategy and defense points, but being outnumbered would have been an issue, and with bullets flying things would have been much, much worse.
That’s really why I think they held their fire, they would have been far more disciplined than the idiots, who would have likely shot may of their own.

Dumb, yes, but there are lots of dumb people, some of them on our side, who aren’t raging lunatics, assholes and creeps, who think that America belongs to THEM and them alone, the rest of us her on probation and better watch ourselves. There’s this deep, deep, DEEP very specific kind of stupidity out in the heartland (and it’s not just rural areas, small towns and outer suburbia) that’s very provincial, so provincial that the people who exhibit it don’t realize that they’re very provincial. They know that there are literally billions of people not like them on the planet, but they sort of just view them as lesser and irrelevant. Their day to day reality IS reality and everything else just nonsense and noise. I’ve met such people and they inhabit a whole other reality that’s so tiny and out of touch, but it’s their reality and the only reality they know, so they assume it IS reality. Billions of people who don’t speak English, don’t care about the US, don’t believe in Jesus, don’t eat bacon cheeseburgers and go to rodeos and truck pulls–those people are just weirdos, deviants and frankly un-American, and someone should look into that.
So, yes, stupid, but a certain kind of stupid. One of the reasons I’m so in favor of building up our rail system, investing in education and culture and the arts and all that, is that it might just make us less provincial and more aware of and in touch with each other, however superficially. The heartland needs to move past NASCAR, country music, Walmart and massive meat consumption as “culture”, and white Xtian people only associating with white Xtian people who think and act as they do. That’s toxic and regressive. It’s like planting the same crop in the same spot every year. Eventually rot and disease sets in. You’ve got to mix things up, constantly. Don’t like the change? Tough, that’s life.

Maybe I’ve seen too many of these over the years, but I think I’d assume that the “deadly force authorized” bit probably applies when breaking glass to get into the Speakers Lobby of the US House of Representatives, with or without the placard.
