President Trump’s political operation has raised more than $150 million in a shameless push to line its post-election pockets the Washington Post reported late Monday.
Doesn’t it seem like he would have been able to raise more? We’ve had non-stop coverage of his battle to overturn the election results, and with sending out over 500 pleas for donations you would think that the 70 million + who voted for him would respond. While 150 million is nothing to sneeze at, it isn’t anywhere close to what you might need to convince people that there is a groundswell of support. It’s clear that he doesn’t plan to pay his legal team, but there are still expenses that have to be paid upfront. He’s going to need to raise a lot more than this, even if it is just to pay off the debts that are coming due this year.
(“This year” is inaccurate. I meant the debts that are coming due within a few years.)
Talking about American exceptionalism. In what country would people give money to a politician on his way out? I guess this is the same crowd that believes absolutely everything they hear in church and are used to get sheared all the time…
Yes, somewhat terrifying. My gut tells me he just doesn’t have “it,” whatever that is. His father has something in his personality and persona that makes people lose themselves - he is a true cult leader. I don’t think Butthead has that “it.” We’ll see, but yeah, I’m fully expecting him to throw his hat in the ring, and I sadly won’t be surprised if he wins the nomination.
Assuming, of course, he isn’t living in a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with the U.S.
Give the Devil his due. Donald Trump is an A-#1 con man if nothing else. He knows how to fleece the crowd for every last penny on a National scale with Zero remorse. I doubt he’ll ever be flat broke.
Dad won’t run, I would be surprise if he is even alive by then. And Don Jr. has all the stupidity of the father and none of the charisma, he might get nominated by a fractured republican party, but will get nowhere specially since there will be all sorts of third party candidacies supported by disaffected republicans and donors.
He’ll work that fundraising list for years. It’ll replace the Trump Foundation as a cash flow source. Wait until he uses the campaign to launder Russian money.
Republicans still aren’t great at the small donor stuff, the lion’s share of their fund raising comes from big donors. And those people don’t want a thing to do with Trump; they largely closed their wallets during the actual campaign when they saw how Parscale was blowing through (ripping off) their donations on frivolous activities like running ads in D.C. to keep Trump pacified.
