President Donald Trump delayed the almost $400 million in congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine as early as June, according to a CNN report on Wednesday.
In some ways, this strikes me as typical Trump behavior. My guess would be that this was an impulsive decision based on a Trump’s general sense for how the opportunity would serve his interest in supporting Putin. Trump just isn’t sufficiently “together” or premeditated to do something like this as part of a long term plan.
Trump froze the money because Putin wasn’t happy at all that Ukrainians were being supplied by the US. Later Trump figured out that he can also used that for extorting the new Ukrainian president into manufacturing dirt on Biden.
Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal told BuzzFeed News that they only found out in late August when their Washington Embassy sent them a letter about it, which didn’t explain the reason for the delay.
When, exactly, did BuzzFeed get this information from a country that just surrendered to Putin?
It makes me wonder what other shenanigans Trump has pulled concerning the actual implementation of funding allocations made by Congress. How many other shifts in funding or freezes have been made behind the scenes? Mitch McConnell has been completely complicit in permitting Trump to override Congress’s authority in this regard, so it seems it could be very easy to hide such actions.
Exactly. I gotta believe he is required to check in with Putin on a semi-regular basis. That’s the information I can’t wait to hear about, that is, if Trump and his gang were fools enough to hide the transcripts of those incidents in the ultra secure computer. That stashed away stuff is bound to come out.
