The problems we are facing are exacerbated because there is no true leadership, especially from the US, at this time of international crisis. The voice of reason, optimism, empathy, and the ability to marshal and focus the technical (medical, science) and social (economic, political) capabilities of our country have not been harnessed owing to choices made by the Republican Party. They dismantled committees designed to deal with this issue, and their decades old portrayal of intellectual members of the community who have mastered and contributed to the extension of fields as being no more important than anyone else has led us to this point in time. They continue to lie (there is intent) to the public to preserve their power, and to obtain advantage in this time of challenge.
But past lessons have also showed that this situation can be successfully resolved, but reality dictates with a greater cost (in both lives and financial expense) because of the current leadership’s (in)actions. The question remains, will we learn from these mistakes, rebuild with a greater purpose of equity and sustainability, and exchange our current leaders for those interested in serving all of the people all of the time and not simply a few? November will tell. Educate yourselves and vote.

Sadly, this is the only way some Americans will believe this virus is real, that the reported number of deaths are not an inflated hoax and that they, too, as well as friends, neighbors, loved ones are vulnerable. The fact that these rural areas are unprepared for a full out medical emergency will only add to the misery.
Staffers are reportedly aware of the risks of lifting social distancing guidelines so soon, and Trump himself knows that suddenly forcing the economy to open up again spells danger.

Even if it is opened up completely, it will take years to restore the economy and the only ones with experience with doing that are the Democrats. Biden can claim that he did it before and he can do it again, particularly if the Dems control the Senate.
