Report: Trump Admin Likely Postponing Tax Filing Deadline Amid Coronavius Outbreak

President Donald Trump’s administration is reportedly leaning toward pushing back the April 15 tax filing deadline this year as part of its response to the spread of COVID-19.

Well, that’s a huge load off everyone’s mind I’m sure. And of course if you’re dead you don’t have to file at all.

That’s probably not a totally stupid idea. I don’t know exactly what effects a postponement has on the internal IRS side (they can’t be zero), but giving people and businesses a little extra breathing room seems somewhat helpful.

My guess is, a permanent pause on tax filing for families whose name rhyme with Gump.

Okay. Don’t see how this is particularly pertinent.

Although it may be a sound idea, the White House response appears to be piecemeal, scattershot and not well-thought out. This will add to the general air of confusion swirling around the White House’s overall COVID-19 response.

He is always in a panic and he is always throwing shit against the wall.

In other words, their approach to problems is consistent.

They can think in only one dimension: money. People’s lives? Only as far as that affects the flow of money.

I disagree. Its already fairly easy to get an extension on filing your taxes – basically you just need to ask. But putting off the deadline for everyone across the board makes no sense at all at this point.

IMHO, given what we know about the contagious nature of the virus, the smartest moves right now would involve isolating those most likely to suffer severe consequences from an exposure, and making sure that the resources are available to treat those who show severe symptoms.

You just have to have someone else do it for you

Trivial, just to look like they are doing something. IRS has already received 59 million returns, about one third of the total expected.

And with social distancing perhaps being the new norm for awhile, what could be easier than filing taxes from home, via computer?

Very true.

I’m sure Donnie will do anything that doesn’t cost him or his supporters money, including undermining thr programs supported through payroll tax deductions.
We will, however, be in stormy waters if the solutions require any kind of roll back of his tax cuts or in any way impose on his business supporters. To all appearances, their rising bottom lines are more important than the lives, health and safety of the citizenry Mango Mussolini allegedly serves.

I said to someone this morning here at work, this is all in an effort to starve the beast and make SS and Medicare less liquid than they might already be. Here’s the way they go about insisting that the entitlements, entirely funded by the about-to-be abolished or suspended FICA tax, are no longer available because the funding has been cut off.

When there’s no more money left, they shut it down, even though it’s entirely self-inflicted.

The House can’t let this go through. Period.
