Report: Schumer Privately Arguing Against Having Witnesses At Impeachment Trial

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has reportedly been pushing back against Democratic House impeachment managers’ call to have witnesses testify at ex-President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, which is set to begin on Tuesday.

The last trial didn’t have witnesses and the Dems wanted them. Now they can have them and don’t want them? Please don’t be this stupid, Schumer. And honestly, the longer this goes on, with more witnesses and coverage, the greater the chance that Trump will want to testify.

No witnesses equals "let’s move on "

Well this is an idea that hopefully fails. At least some of the Capitol Police that were harmed and their families should testify to their injuries for simple decency sake.

I privately argue that we should not needless drag out the careers of Schumer, Durbin, Kaine, Feinstein, Cardin, Coons, Sinema, Leahy, Menendez, Reed, Smith, and at least 5 other professionally petrified/conspicuously mediocre D senators.

It all depends on who gets called and what they have to share. It’s easy to forget that as we watched the crowd we kept wondering why the security response was insufficient, and we heard that the Pentagon slow walked any NG response. That part isn’t on video. Get us some witnesses who can tell us what happened there.

I’m not surprised that Schumer is doing this. It’s about what I would expect from him.

Chuckie,
Why play the hand only to fold on the river?
Don’t listen to Mitch.

How many bhenghazi hearings did we have?

Are you saying that the slain and wounded capitol police officers do not deserve justice, that their family and loved one’s loss is not a shared experience, or just that American diplomats are more important and deserving of justice than other Americans?

Can you make this argument in public?

Thanks in advance!

It seems to me it would be highly useful to have people testify who went to Washington and invaded the Capitol as a direct result of Trump’s exhortations to do so. I mean, what can Trump’s supporters do to counter that? He told them to go there and fight at the exact time the election was being certified. The timing was no accident!

If the Repubs would want to devolve things into a big argument about why the police weren’t ready for a riot and an invasion, that’s fine. Let them do that, because those measures will be an obvious distraction. To say: if the police had been ready, the invasion would not have occurred sure does miss the point, although one can see the Fox News “experts” spouting such drivel.

Denied the ability to call witnesses at first impeachment: Bad

Opting to forgo witnesses at second impeachment: Good

Seem legit.

Wouldn’t want to unduly embarrass ex-President Trump. I mean, it’s not as if he’s ever done anything to merit the scorn of Democrats.

I wonder what Biden’s preference is here. Could that be an influence on Schumer?

Wouldn’t want to call junior and ask if they were yucking it up as they watched the riot on the teevee

I’d also hope to hear from Mike Pence about Donnie’s urging him to assume unconstitutional powers.
