Report: Prosecutor Resigns From Durham Probe Citing Concerns About Political Pressure | Talking Points Memo

There’s one less investigator investigating the investigators.

The Hartford Courant reports that Nora R. Dannehy resigned from the Durham investigation this week. That decision, the paper says, was at least partly motivated by alleged attempts at speeding up the investigation for political reasons by Attorney General Bill Barr.

Report: Prosecutor Resigns From Durham Probe Citing Concerns About Political Pressure

No surprise here, except that this is public knowledge…Barr has made it clear he wants something out of this report before the election, and I suspect that he’s trying to twist the investigation so that it hits Biden, even tries to portray him as a leader of the effort to “overthrow” Trump. All he needs is something in the investigation that he can glom onto and spin beyond recognition to call Biden a traitor. It’s good that at least one prosecutor has resigned in protest, and made it clear to colleagues that it was over political pressure from Barr. Hopefully we get more information about what that means exactly, it would be very good if this maneuver was undercut before Barr has a chance to deploy it in October.

This all remains something I never would have expected in my lifetime…people manipulating the justice department to serve the leader is what you see in other nations, not democracies, and certainly not in the US. The fact that we’re here is really sobering…the fact that it might work in the end is terrifying. We can only hope that people aren’t fooled by these desperate acts of the Trump administration to retain power.

Pete Strzok had an interview with Rachel last night and said things which made this development not be as surprising as it could have been.

I hope Durham is fine with trading in his reputation and integrity to be FUBarr’s stooge.

Barr’s already making the promises and writing the checks.

And it’s not just the FBI in the cross-hairs. They’re going to punish the attorneys on Mueller’s team with arrests and charges…

So even the sub-inquisitors are abandoning the rack and breaking wheel.

Probably doesn’t matter what the report says, FUBarr will “summarize” it, hold a presser, and then not release the actual report until after the election.

Charges, but not indictments?

Talk about heavy handed, the clock is running out so hopefully she will be back as of January.

“Nora R. Dannehy resigned from the Durham investigation this week. That decision, the paper says, was at least partly motivated by alleged attempts at speeding up the investigation for political reasons by Attorney General Bill Barr.”

Does anyone know if she has a legal responsibility to provide evidence of wrongdoing to a judge?

IANAL, but if I were legally representing her, my advice would be: “Seek legal representation from a real attorney, because I’ve never studied law, let alone passed the bar.”

(Or words to that effect.)

That’s an amazing likeness. Uncanny.

And there is clearly nothing corrupt going on at the top of the DOJ . . . .right? Bill Barr is just trying to serve the people’s interest . . .right? And so is Durham . . . .right?

I have one final question: When all is said and done, who prosecutes the prosecutors?

Resigned from the probe, not from DOJ.

ETA: Better reporting indicates she’s resigning from DOJ too.

Speaking loosely, is there a difference for our purposes? The point is merely to feed the MSM imagery and rhetoric for November. If it requires a grand jury to issue an indictment, that will wait to fail until after November. For now, it’s sufficient that they arrest them on probable cause, etc., and parade them in front of the cameras for arraignments and such.

Does he need a grand jury to pursue indictments? If so, wouldn’t one have to already be convened?

IANAL but there are plenty of them on here. @ncsteve @txlawyer @tena just to name a few.

FWIW, this is Nicolle Wallace’s top story on MSNBC right now.
