Report: McConnell Plans To Get Impeachment Trial Done By Christmas

Not surprised, he has been consistent with message.
Too bad Cult 45 is all mad at House for Inquiry happening behind closed doors, demanding it be public, not realizing it was always the Senate Trial that had our rapt attention during Nixon, not whatever Hackery the House was making in Clinton.

Seems to me he’s setting up a reinforcement of the narrative that the Dems are dragging their feet for political purposes.

Dems should take their time and make sure EVERYTHING is investigated and that it makes it at least to the early spring.

I wouldn’t trust a word McConnell says.

More of a socialist, like the Nazis were.

Don’t be stupid
Be a smartie
Come and join
The Donald Party!

My guess?

Since he started talking privately with Pelosi. He sees this is only going to get worse, and Trump is spinning way out of control. This smells like a surrender.

A smart GOP leader would read the writing on the wall and find some way of taking Trump down without it seeming like they were helping to make it happen. McTurdle is certainly smart enough to know that. He may not be ready to commit himself to such a course of action, but deep down he probably knows it and is slowly coming to the conclusion that it’s the only way to save his power and party.

Competing self-interest, not altruism, is what keeps democracy alive.

For me it’s the elevator full of blood in The Shining.

Well, the smart move is to get Trump to resign.

I am guessing that boat can’t be built, however. One of the problems with the swinging door on this Administration is the Senate, and McConnell, no long really have any backdoor communications available to start floating that idea. Pompeo is the closest they have, and he is too deep in this himself, plus he has proven he is a Trump toady of the first degree.

So, prepping for those negotiations to fail or not even materialize, I can definitely see McConnell having some heart to hearts with Pelosi.

Cruella de Vil, if she was married to Trump.

It has to be set up, so MM can approach Trump, directly or through some intermediary, with the news that despite his best efforts he can’t prevent indictment, so it’s either subject yourself, your family and the country to such a spectacle, or resign with some shred of (hah!) dignity, like Nixon. Trump, being a fan of Tricky Dick, would be complemented by the comparison and regard favorably such a way out. He’d be promised Pence’s pardon, to sweeten the deal (Trump loves deals!). Of course, for this to work, MM would have to actually have the votes to remove, and he’s nowhere near there yet. But he can make it happen, using Pelosi & Schumer as his stalking horses. All that’s needed is for him to decide that he’s got to go, and he’ll find a way to make it happen–and be a bit of a hero in the process.

The question for Dem leadership should now be, what is the best timeline for impeachment completion to inflict the most damage on not only Trump which is arguably the lesser concern, but on the entirety of the GOP. Kovie used the term “political euthanasia”, for the good of the country, our Democracy and way of life, the GOP needs to be permanently put to sleep. This should be the only consideration of timing impeachment imho. Maybe July-August 2020 would be good, I don’t know how or what rules constrains or compels Moscow Mitch to to do the Senate’s part, maybe he’ll pull a Garland on it.

McConnell Plans To Get Impeachment Trial Done By Christmas

OK.

Whose?

That lack of a back channel works both ways. Its doubtful anyone in the WH could realistically call McConnell’s bluff if he said the votes were there to remove, or at least it was in question.

And having Mulvaney call around to see where everyone is? Yeah, that will result in people bolting towards removal. It screams desperation.

McConnell can hope that the trial is over by Christmas, so that the Republicans have a chance to recover either by selecting a new candidate or bashing through with Trump. People aren’t going to forget though, and the Christmas holiday would solidify how they feel about it, there would be plenty of time to think and talk it over with relatives. This is his attempt to sweep things under the rug, and pressure Pelosi to make the process go fast (and perhaps miss some key evidence instead of waiting for a subpoena or testimony to go through). This is also why we can’t have secret votes…he’s already trying to protect the Republican senators by keeping them from speaking, we really need to hear their opinion and their votes.

The House should take its time and be thorough, and it looks like they plan to. Personally, if I was them I’d wait until some of the key subpoenas are argued through the courts, which should not take more than a couple months with the pressure things are moving under. If the courts block them, then next spring put the articles out with public hearings. Heck, the House couldn’t make Thanksgiving now, the investigation is still going and there will be weeks of hearings and discussions before any vote happens on impeachment, so McConnell is already being unrealistic, no surprise he’s trying to screw things up.

none of them would be allowed to talk during the trial

Freedom stops at the Senate door.

Mitch McConnell is going to cave to the New York shyster, Southern Republicans.

And the best way to do so is to ensure a resignation so they never have to go on the record with any of them opposing him, and can scream all day about how his forced resignation is an indignity to the country and loyal republicans need to get to the polls.

Nope. The whole point of this impeachment is that this is a Clear and Present Danger to the country. It’s about the crimes that he’s doing right now.

Can’t delay that shit, if you let it simmer, it must not be so critical.

Luckily, dotard is playing along, doing shit like Syria to prove on an ongoing basis that this is critical and of the time essence to complete and remove him

No need to waste the Senate’s precious time before voting to acquit because he’s a Republican.
