By all means, John. Do exactly that.

Please write governor Hickenlooper a nice note if he pulls the trigger. Make this a good experience for him. Show Beto the way.

Excellent idea. I wonder why Hickenlooper didnā€™t do that in the first place.

Hi! To find out what I can do, say @discobot display help.

This should have been his first step, he probably would have been unstoppable against Gardner and no other Democrats would have jumped in. Now, thereā€™s already a bunch of candidates, which means they will likely go through a primary that could get nasty, which could damage whoever comes out of it. Hickelooper would still be the favorite Iā€™d think, but if things go bad he might be damagedā€¦it may not be enough to save Gardner, but even making the chance possible was a bad idea.

Really, the Democrats need to thin their herd, and send several of the candidates to run for the Senate or governor instead. Those positions are really important in 2020ā€¦we need the Senate out of Republican hands in order to allow the president to have a government (you know McConnell will block all appointments, especially judges), and governorships will stop insane gerrymandering for the next decade. Thereā€™s no excuse for risking either of those happening, especially with an unpopular drag as the presidential candidate and the possibility of a recession next yearā€¦Democrats should be all out at every level to win as much as they can, and then pivot to make government work again.

Good; we need the Senate almost as much as we need the White House.

(1) I couldnā€™t be happier

(2) He did well in the Debates and can put it to good use

(3) Gardner can be taken

Dems retaking this seat is essential to their retaking the senate, and if heā€™s our best bet for that, so be it. I fully expect Trumpā€™s negative coattails to help the effort. I check 538 every day to see Trumpā€™s current approve/disapprove numbers and theyā€™ve been inching down the past week to 10 days, from around 42.7 to around 41.9. Not enough to pin our hopes on, yet, but itā€™s a good sign.

I expect it to dip below 40 soon, and stay there for good. Between an about to slow down economy, intensifying de facto impeachment hearings and eventually actual impeachment, and all the other shit heā€™s going to pull, I donā€™t think he or Repubs have a chance in 2020.

But taken where?

CO resident here. Yes he probably shouldā€™ve begun a campaign against Gardner many months ago before ten or more other Dems spent lots of time and effort on their own primary campaigns. There are going to be some serious hard feelings here, especially the two current front runners, Andrew Romanoff and Mike Johnston. Both of them are rather to the left of Hickenlooper, and I would prefer either, but I donā€™t think they are ideologically doctrinaire to the point of trying to sabotage whichever candidate emerges from the primary.

The Houston Chronicle the stateā€™s biggest newspaper is urging Beto to do this. The sooner prospective good candidates realize nothing changes without the senate in Democratic control the better weā€™ll be.

To Bill Barrā€™s private Corruption Islandā€¦where else?

Gardnerā€™s one of the squishy five: Collins, Ernst, Cornyn, Tillis are the others.

Heā€™ll come aroundā€¦and his Senate campaign will be just as good in turning TX blue.

Thanks for the Head Up. I think something similar is happening in TX if Beto jumps in against Cornyn.

There have been a lot of Democrats from blue states moving to Texas, including California, giving rise to slogans from Texans such as ā€œDonā€™t Californicate Texas.ā€ Ha! Itā€™s that new influence from elsewhere thatā€™s going to contribute to turning things around.
