Rudy Giuliani, one of the most active proponents of former President Trump’s Big Lie, is reportedly in discussions with the Jan. 6 Select Committee about testifying, according to the New York Times.
Giuliani’s lawyer, however, reportedly signaled to the committee that he plans to take a less confrontational approach towards its requests compared to others in Trump’s inner circle who are defying the panel’s subpoenas.
That is what unpaid legal bills do to you, Donald!.
As Josh M. pointed out so many times, this is what Rump’s dignity wraiths come to. A bad end. Yes, @emiliano4 , from America’s Mayor to a particularly pathetic joke that ends up on The Masked Singer.
If Rudy’s goal was to see America’s criminal justice system from every vantage point, it looks like he’s succeeding. I wish him even more luck in this endeavor in that he gets to visit the inside of a jail cell for 9-11 years. Godspeed, sir!
If he agrees to testify, since he probably won’t give anything up about Trump and the plot to steal the election, I would ask him about what he thought he was doing with that young woman in the Borat movie. Might as well get evidence of at least one crime.
I believe this cooperation will go smoothly as much as I believe … checking notes … that pigs will fly out of Trump’s ass during a snowstorm in hell.
A delaying tactic by a clumsy bullshitter who hopes to drag it through the courts all year if he plays his cards right and lands before the right lower court judges. Might not work, but may as well swing for the fences and hope a newly elected Trumpist congress will set you free.
Imagine you’re his lawyer. His credibility is down in the abyssal depths just above where Roger Stone’s dwells, so do you use that to your advantage? Invite them to send the poor old fellow home to live out his remaining days in addled peace? I mean, look at the image there. I can’t imagine how difficult it’s going to be for the committee staff to take this brain-dead buffoon seriously.
When my wife and I drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and see Alcatraz in the distance, and I think of Trump and his crew, I sometimes find myself wishing the prison were still in operation. A cold cell at the old prison, painted in tacky gold, would be the ultimate Trump property.
While I think it’s true that Ghouliani may be trying to entice Rump to pick up his legal tab, personally, I think it’s a fools errand. Rump has never believed he had a reason to protect anyone else except himself. And, in what passes for his mind, he’s never done anything wrong! Besides, - Rump has his own legal tab to be concerned with so Ghouliani’s on his own.
Additionally, Giuliani’s engagement with the committee could provide more obstacles for the House to refer him for criminal contempt.
This is important. Much of what Giuliani has to say could be used against him criminally. The Committee will have a choice of honoring his invocation of the Fifth Amendment, or electing to grant him use immunity (his testimony cannot be used against him). But, should DOJ want to indict him for the conduct about which he testified, it will have to prove it had evidence acquired independently of his testimony. The Committee likely will be in close consultation with Justice about this.
