Former Florida county tax collector Joel Greenberg, Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) indicted associate, will plead guilty to six felony counts including sex trafficking, according to Business Insider.
“The first indictment of Joel Greenberg alleges that he falsely accused another man of sex with a minor for his own gain. That man was apparently innocent. So is Congressman Gaetz.”
Whistling past the graveyard.
Gaetz’ lawyers will probably try to make that case in court, but if the prosecutors have supporting evidence, Gaetz will spend time, hopefully a long time, in prison.
It be interesting to see what Gaetz does now that he has a better idea of what is coming after him. More lying? Of course!! Accusations of persecution by liberals? Probably. Shutting up and trying to cop a plea? Who could he flip on? If flipping would get him less years, he would do it in a second but the only bigger fish would be GQP leadership or Trump.
So is the (apparent) lack of the “under 17” charge, an indication that he’s flipped on Gaetz? That seemed to be the thought in yesterday’s comments section. If so, woo hoo!!
I know we don’t have all the details on the agreement but that was supposed to be a tell
It has been my experience that defense lawyers spend considerable time and resources extolling the innocence of their clients…they are often subsequently convicted…that’s what I expect in this instance…
I’m as happy as anyone else about this but in typical wet blanket fashion I have to remind everyone that he will be replaced by another Republican owing to his ruby red district and Florida has another House seat owing to the last census and those lines will be drawn in the most damaging way possible owing to Florida’s electorate consistently voting against their own self interest.
