Microsoft purchased 800 software patents from AOL for over $1 billion in early April, but Microsoft apparently wasn’t the only company interested in the portfolio. Facebook reportedly tried to buy the same patents but was outbid, according to Bloomberg. Facebook is currently engaged in a legal battle with Yahoo over alleged patent infringmenet on both sides, though Yahoo fired first.
