This will probably happen to a lot of members of Congress before it’s all over. Pandemics tend to be very egalitarian in whom they affect. The rich and powerful have no more protection from a disease like this than any of the rest of us.

He’s 45. By all appearances healthy enough. And he could easily have died. So there’s a data point among many suggesting relative youth and lack of any concerning history doesn’t confer invulnerability. I read about a 12-year-old girl currently struggling to stay alive. And Trump does nothing.

Sunday before last, there were about 3,600 cases in the US. Last Sunday,(yesterday) there were 33,546 cases. Nearly a ten fold increase. Yes, the numbers are going to be a lot higher next Sunday. This started last November in China and their population is more than triple of ours. In these past four months they only have 81,093 cases. That’s pretty astounding in a country with a population that exceeds ours by over a billion.
I’m afraid we will end up with a lot more cases than China because of Trump’s incompetence and lack of early action.

We don’t want to lose McAdams. I believe he’s the only Democrat in the Utah delegation.

What we are seeing, is about 40% of the people admitted to hospitals with Coronavirus are under 50. This is how the virus is behaving. It should scare the shit out of those folks that were on Spring Break partying in Florida or Texas.

If only tRump could focus and take this seriously…

Wait till the Rethugs start dropping like flies from their lunch and being exposed here and there. They are not immune and they haven’t heeded the advice out there to distance themselves. They think, oh, I know this guy, he’s safe and that’s not how it works.

If he did, he would not bite the folks who carry his messages for him…

Only way that happens is if he gets it and gets really sick.
Second thought, that won’t work either, he’d only be concerned for himself, screw everyone else, family, people in general.

Certainly wish all of these notable patients well …but at the same time I fear the simplistic short attention span minds of this nation will look at the favorable recoveries (in large part made possible by the very best in class medical care that these VIPs are swiftly receiving) … and assume that - swift favorable recoveries without complications means …this ain’t so bad …

Interestingly enough, the United States was ranked at the top of the world in preparedness for a pandemic. Obviously being prepared and responding are two different things. And the response we got was to let the virus percolate through our nation for two months while DJT pranced in front of cameras. People in the GOP must believe they are too good to get this disease.

True. I said if only tRump could focus, because he’s shown everyday he can’t. It’s scarey that he’s still being propped up by Pence and the shitshow of a crew.

As is often the case, this report took time to prepare … and it was published in 2019…so the pandemic preparedness system that was assessed likely still included the various programs, personnel and procedures that we built up in the Obama administration.
While the well developed healthcare infrastructure may place the US up in the rankings … the current administration’s dismantling of many of the provisions & programs that had been developed probably would change this ranking if it were done today.

Trump dismantled part of that preparedness.

The focus on the fatality rate by age was always misleading. Those under 50 (with no other mitigating factors) might be healthy enough to survive the virus, but may still require hospitalization and/or ventilation to do so.

Expect the fatality rate for the under 50 crowd to increase should (when?) hospitals get overwhelmed.

But as they say in baseball, “What have you done lately?”

Well, except for access to healthcare, and no worries about affording it, and minimal employment anxiety…
