I doubt he does this. he’s running on 99 octane ego right now but reality is in front of him. He has zero chance of winning. He does have the possibility of jacking with the election, perhaps throwing it to Trump. I’m sure he’s getting pounded with that right now. He’ll never be president but if he keeps this up he will be a pariah.
Walk back in less than 2 weeks unless he’s in Trump’s pocket.
I doubt that. Most studies show Trumper’s incapable of rejecting him. I suspect “never Trump” GOP’ers might see Amash a better option than Biden unless they weigh out the reality in his campaign.
The latest polling there is making that situation look even worse:
Its not a vanity project, and the millions will come from the GOP. Its their strategy. Amash will be well paid for this stunt once the dust settles.
And, quite frankly, he doesn’t have a lot of other options. He is dead in the water for re-election to his House seat; Senator is clearly out of the question, as is Governor.
ETA: Speaking of the Governor, Trump has made any strategy in Michigan by his campaign even harder by getting into a personal tiff with their governor, whose popularity is rising as a result…while his is dropping.
And while his campaign has, correctly IMO, identified Michigan as a place that may be out of their reach in 2020, Trump is not in a situation where he has other state to replace it with. He cannot grow his map, and can ill afford to surrender any states he won. Right now,(which is very early), they are looking at losing WI, MI and PA, and will be struggling in AZ, FL, GA, NC and possibly even TX.
I will make an early prediction: All the stories about what a genius Parscale is, are going to all be going down the memory rabbit hole, probably well before November.
We’ll know he’s serious when he puts Tara Reade in salary as a consultant.
Seriously, the man will do anything to keep a Democrat out of the White House
I suspect that he is the possibly unwitting pawn of objectively pro Trump, nominally never Trump people— like Schultz was used by Schmidt. There is absolutely zero rationale for him to run except to give never Trumpers an excuse for four more years of Trump.
Look at the timing, too. I bet you wouldn’t have seen this if Sanders were the nominee. This is entirely about never Trump assholes.
You want him to hold a Michigan campaign rally? (I won’t mention the last candidate to do that, but I’ll give you hint: he wasn’t imPotus and his name sounds like Beanie)
I thought of Putin immediately. There could be a ton of pressure on Amash right now to do this, like…nice family you have there. Coming from Putin AND Rs who see this as a long-shot that might siphon 20, 30, or 40k votes in the right places.
However…I do not see Americans in general as ‘looking for choices’. Never Chumpers, and Rs who have been sickened and humiliated by Chump know that the R party has to be burned down. Dems need to be in power. The ship needs to be righted…and Dems offer them a foil to fight against, regain their R feet, and rebuild the party as a counter to a Dem decade. So, the Never Chump folks aren’t looking for an independent run to throw their vote away on simply because they could never pull the lever for a D. That is not what I am hearing from them. Nobody thinks Amash can win. Sure, there ARE R votes out there that he can garner. I just don’t think he will get any from folks who voted for Chump last time, but have since decided they will vote D. I think he will be a bailout option for folks who are stuck still thinking they will vote for Chump.
Amash is clearly counting on the fact that the Libertarian primaries are mere beauty contests–the convention (originally scheduled in late May in Dallas but now postponed until July) selects the nominee. Of course, he still has to defeat Vermin Supreme, who won the New Hampshire and Massachusetts primaries, and Jacob Hornberger (not notable enough for his own Wikipedia page), who won seven contests so far.
Bingo! The DeVos crew and other rightwing groups will also be after him. I suppose he thinks his political life is looking pretty bleak right about now, but I don’t see how that much improves in the future. Maybe if the Republican Party dies and has a rebirth…
