I bet Mr. Sexton despises that address he has.

Finn and Snow think so too.

Threatening to cut off funds was a stupid move. Nothing says integrity less than intimidation in public.

It’s hard to imagine a more predictable outcome from the actions of the Tennessee GOP. The fact that they appear to have not seen this coming is concerning. Corruption is one thing, but this level of political tone deafness among politicians betrays a collective IQ of Tennessee Republicans that can’t possibly exceed room temperature. The fact that these people are running a state government makes me wonder how Tennessee hasn’t gone up in flames by now.

Fair question.

My initial answer would be that society has a lot of inertia. Once things are up and running, many of them will go on by themselves with some reasonably competent person seeing to them on a local level.

The problems are that:

  1. It’s hard to make improvements in how the parts work together if there’s rank incompetence at the top.
  2. Some of the stuff being done at the local level ain’t so swell and is hurting people, and if there’s no competent and well-meaning management at the higher level, people on the ground keep getting hurt.

The first of those eventually becomes a problem for the whole society.

The second one is a problem right away for anyone on the short end of the stick, but society as a whole can keep running indefinitely with some people being needlessly hurt.

It’s wrong to let that happen, but society doesn’t stop functioning just because we’re not doing anything about it.

Would this be a good time to mention that the TN speaker appears to not live in his own district, a requirement for the TN House? I wonder how many other members are like, “thanks for the votes see you in 2 years”.

Under Section 2-2-122(a)(5) of the Tennessee Code, “[t]he place where a married person’s spouse and family have their habitation is presumed to be the person’s place of residence.” Sexton has two adult children from a previous marriage. He has one school-aged child with his current spouse, Lacey. There is significant evidence that Sexton’s wife and family do not live in Crossville.

Sexton’s youngest child is enrolled at John Edwards Classical Academy, a private Christian school outside of Nashville. Sexton and his spouse are shown regularly attending events on the school’s Facebook page. The school is more than two hours from the Sextons’ purported residence in Crossville.

I hope these two show the national party how to push back hard, while keeping grace and righteous indignation on-board. It’s heartening.

“We will continue to show up here in the legislature because [Speaker] Cameron Sexton needs to resign.”

But Sexton is yet to be out of odor.

Gerrymandering and pacifism of liberals. Pretty much describes the reasons in a myriad of states.

I, for one, feel confident that the speaker will do the right thing and resign. The GQP is nothing if not consistent in its quest for truth and accountability.

Also, monkeys might fly out of my butt.

I said, four days ago, both on these boards and on Twitter, that those TN GOP fucks are going to reap the whirlwind. The Two Justins, and the Biden WH, are going to cut them to pieces.

I think the whole GQP is finally realizing they’re the dog that caught the car. Between this, Dobbs, Kascmaryk’s tone deaf ruling and FatAss’s chokehold w/shrinking popularity, they’ve painted themselves into a corner…

Personally, I am considering having popcorn delivered on a regular basis over the next few months.

Prediction: if you thought Dem strength in 2022 was a surprise, you ain’t seen nothing like 2024.

They’re like a bunch of bozos who’ve spent years saying pilots are the problem, and now they’re in the cockpit, with fuel low and a plane to land. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.

President Biden took no action against the dirty bomb verdict against mifepristone and left the fools to hash out the fallout with their very rich and powerful bigass pharma bosses. Works for me.

It’s a pretty safe bet that at least one of the Justins—take your pick—will be a candidate for the House or Senate in Washington at some point in the foreseeable future.

Cameron Sexton has been the best thing to happen to TN Democrats is a long time.
