Former special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker made some alterations to his story in his opening statement Tuesday, trying to get his account more on board with the other testimonies lawmakers have now heard.
He said that he found the investigations that Ambassador to the EU Gordon Sondland raised during the July 10 meeting with former National Security Advisor John Bolton “inappropriate”
So much inappropriate, we got tired of inappropriate. Not sure this is going super turbo great for Chief Bigly.
The bus is coming, and Volker wants to make sure he is not run over by it. Best to toss Rudy under the Bus, as well as Trump. Volker knows that any purjery referral in 2021 is ONLY going to come from one side, and he wants to make sure they are happy with his clean up efforts (aka his current honesty vs earlier dishonesty).
Volker looks like he knows that his future employablity and personal freedom is at issue…
Volker, one of the “three amigos” — along with Sondland and Energy Secretary Rick Perry — also tried to distance himself from the unofficial backchannel the three of them helmed, saying that his role was strictly in the “official channel.”
He’s kind of like Dusty, off on his own sometimes … and he probably killed the Invisible Swordsman, too.
Volker did not think a directive to talk to someones personal lawyer would be a directive coming from that individual. I know that I am naive about a lot that goes on, especially in DC, but this has to be one of the dumbest statements ever.
Backchannel presidency minion doesn’t like backchannels? It’s like he doesn’t care to be involved with nefarious dealings unless he has an official title to front his grift with.
Thanks for all your reporting. A “linko” I hope is easily fixed; when I click on the file it’s Morrison’s opening statement, not Volker’s. (same as the one in the Morrison post).
Volker seemed to want to please every member of the committee on both sides. He seemed a fairly decent person who was spoiled by work in the Trump White House. ETTD. In another environment, he probably would have served honorably.
