“In the motion, Consovoy cited ‘taxpayers’ interest in preventing the disclosure of their confidential tax information’ as a reason for intervening in the case.”

Does Trump even pay taxes? If only there were some way to answer that question authoritatively.

Maybe it’s all those hush-money transfers to Epstein that he doesn’t want to have to explain away…

Probably paid for out of the Trump Foundation.

Actually, not entirely joking. Never had enough money to give folks to trigger reporting, but if you transfer over a certain amount, don’t you have to report that gift, and they have to report it on their taxes as income…

Trump is really scared which means there is something in those returns he doesn’t think he can explain away. Any opinions on how the judge will rule? Even if the judge rules in congress’ favor will this new suit by Trump further prolong the release?

Or he just doesn’t want anyone to see that he doesn’t have millions in income, and isn’t as wealthy as he wants us to believe. (It isn’t as if there is a form to itemize his Russian connections.)

I believe it is $10,000. Any over $9,999. you have to report.

Which he would have a hard time explaining away. Agreed.

According to Cohen it’s the manipulation of the worth of his properties; they’re worth a fortune when used as collateral for a loan, not so much when assessed for taxes.

In other words, rampant bank fraud, among a host of other things. Not to mention revealing that he’s worth no where close to what he’s crowed.

Well, it’s pretty clear he’s got something to hide - probably a lot of somethings.

And I really really really want to know what these somethings are. Really.

The possibilities are not mutually exclusive but I think some weigh on his mind more than others.

On a personal level I would say his biggest fear is being exposed as a complete fraud when it comes to his net worth. He has always exaggerated that.

He has been getting away with the other stuff so long I don’t think he consciously fears much on that front. He has never had much fear of the consequences of his actions - although I sincerely hope his comeuppance is imminent.

The judge in the case is the in-the-pocket McFadden who has already issued some very suspect rulings in Trump’s favor. The only suspense here is how much of a pretzel he will have to twist the law into in order to rule that the legislature has no right to see Trump’s income taxes. Whatever it is, it will be impressively stupid and nonsensical and everyone will say it is legally unsound - then we will all move on to the next puerile tweet and never get to see anything having to do with Trump’s finances.

Yes, but don’t bet on it. I remember Vietnam, Iran Contra, outing a CIA operator, violating International law on torture and Ford pardoning Nixon. I really questioned Obama’s decision not to hold the Bush administration accountable. Yes. I really want to know but don’t bet on it.

Consovoy is racking up the billable hours for sure. Wonder what his chances of being paid are?
