Read: The 'Emergency' Executive Order Trump Activists are Rallying Behind

On Thursday, the Washington Post reported that Trump-aligned activists are pitching the president on a draft executive order that would declare an “emergency,” relying on debunked claims of foreign interference in elections, to order a far-right wish list of changes to how elections are run in America. That list is far-reaching. It would attempt to…

The “Emergency” is that in a fair election the Republicans are going to get their nether regions handed to them in the mid terms next fall. How did we get to a place where the President is so stunningly corrupt? There are lots of answers to that question but failure of the media may be number one.

Something tells me that the far-reaching, grasping hands trying to grab everything for themselves are going to have to be slapped down hard, if not by the courts and other established institutions, by a citizenry with nothing left to lose. Absent the citizenry, there is no one else left to change the trajectory sponsored by the GOP and its overlords.

the “conflict” language at the close is a doozy. if this piece of WH correspondence conflicts with federal law, the WH correspondence governs. that’s NOT how our legal system works.

This is quite the authoritarian wish list… If signed it should be independent basis #384 for impeaching the President.

The United States appears to still be under the impression that, if the President says there’s an “emergency”, there is. And nobody gets to say otherwise. The latest (illegal) tariffs have been imposed under an “emergency” that not only doesn’t exist, it’s also impossible, given the way international trade works these days (and that clause of the trade regulation needs to be repealed by Congress).

Heh. I’m so old, I remember “Congress” …

But it is not just “liberal bias” in the media. It’s the consolidation of various types of industries into a few, very few wealthy hands. This is Have and Have Nots, or the serfs and the lords of their manors. And some of them adhere to some notion of Divine Right to Rule.

We can say with some confidence that they will try to do something with this. Precisely what remains to be seen.

The GQP voters may be all for this until they find out that they will be disenfranchised more than most. If a passport, for instance, is required for voting, blue Staters are MUCH more likely to have one that red Staters. Right there eliminates quite a lot of voters.

And the activists writing this EO text are quite aware that they’ve been losing elections by ALOT, all of the off-season. They are also aware that their policies and procedures are terribly unpopular. As the First Felon said himself this week, they can’t win on their policies so they cheat - every accusation is a confession.

I love that two of the Authorities cited giving him power to do this are his own Executive Orders.

I should point out that the draft presented here does NOT preclude voting by mail, but does impose conditions such as a requirement that an absentee ballot be received by election day for it to count.

I don’t mind the paper ballot filled out by hand (mail or in person) and hand counted in public, as I wouldn’t trust a voting machine, but the rest is performative nonsense. Computers (I consider voting machines to be computers) are too easily hacked as we see it every day with companies having data stolen from them.

Everything that Trump has attempted that is contrary to law he has claimed is allowed because there is an “emergency.” That doesn’t mean that “the United States” has accepted his claims.

We already have that condition in Vermont even though we have universal vote-by-mail.

Automated tabulators are a requirement - voting ballots by hand only works in small precincts, especially when there are ten or fifteen races in a ballot.
