Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the EU, told House investigators about how he first got involved in Ukraine policy, the directive he received from President Trump to “talk to Rudy” about Ukraine, and how the demands that Giuliani was seeking of Ukraine grew more “insidious” over time.
His return testimony is really damaging…he tried to slide through the first time, and when it became clear that he came off as dishonest he scrambled back to try to clear up some points. And in doing so, he said things like “there was a deal” and “illegal” that torpedo the Republican case against the inquiry. It’s going to be interesting to watch them try to attack him as a never Trumper, or whatever they come up with to make him sound like he was against Trump all along…it’s the only strategy that they have, but this is a case where it’s going to backfire spectacularly since they have been holding him close to this point.
All this and it only cost him a million dollars (spread over four separate payments into the Trump Inaugural) for this privilege. Everything Trump touches, dies.
`Sondland claimed that, despite all the media interviews Giuliani was giving at the time, he was in the dark about Giuliani’s interest in using his Ukraine dealings to go after the Bidens.
I was playing the special White House edition of Clue, and though I landed on Rudy Guliani with a Drug Deal in a Burisma boardroom, I never suspected a thing. Don’t forget. I’m a dilettante, not a real Ambassador.
At some point it’s time to call bullshit. Sondland is the USA’s Ambassador to the EU. Ukraine is not a member of the EU. So why him? Because he’d do it.
It’s truly amazing what the mounting pressure of legal jeopardy and getting caught in offering less than truthful testimony can do to improve one’s memory…
