READ: Initial Report On Alleged Attempted Indiana Lynching

The law enforcement arm of Indiana’s Department of Natural Resources released a report Thursday, the product of investigations after an alleged attempted lynching on July 4.

The crux of the drunken redneck racist biscuit.

“You happy about this? You fucking nappy‐headed bitch, you happy about this?”

This couldn’t have been an attempted lynching, none of the videos I saw had picnic baskets anywhere to be seen.

I agree, no smiling children either.

The world is watching. From the video that was available at the time of altercation it is shown quite clearly who was out numbered. To suggest that Vaughxx was the aggressor is ridiculous. Why would a single black man start something that would lead to such violence?

The investigation had better be clean. As I said, the world is watching.

"saying that he was the “instigator and aggressor.”

Black guy attacks a bunch of white guys in the woods…

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

That is some brilliant defense right there…

I like the parts on pp.16-17 where one of the racists says says they’re celebrating the Fourth of July on private property, then bitches about when “you people came down here and invaded us,” with “us” being a clear reference to the traitors of the confederacy. The cognitive dissonance is a marvel.

What kind of news story is this? A report was released. What does it conclude?

It doesn’t conclude anything. It just reports what the witnesses said in their statements, what was captured on the various videos, and outlines some possible charges. It’s a punt over to the D.A.'s office, which will most likely cite all the conflicting accounts in declining to get involved in this shitshow.

Since trespass is listed as a possible crime committed, does that indicate that Booker was in fact on private property? Or is it possible that it is listed simply because one of the participants claimed it occurred, whether true or not?

No expert but it seems like it’s more than someone’s say-so at this point. It does say “possible” though.

“Well, of course we tried to lynch him. He DESERVED it!11!!1”

Note that they didn’t interview Booker in this document. Reading through the statements, the guys who were holding Booker do not come off well, their stories aren’t very detailed and there are holes. There is one witness who was with Booker who is very detailed, and everything he and the witnesses with Booker say corroborates with the videos. The other guys, they don’t go into detail about anything, and there’s not really a good excuse for ganging up on Booker and pinning him to a tree. One of them basically says they couldn’t remember anything for a minute…they were drunk so that might literally be true, but it does not make them into reliable witnesses.

This is only part of the investigation though, Booker likely talked to someone else so this will get folded into it. The video makes it clear that the aggressive ones were the guys who held Booker…I’m trying to be careful with language here, but if Booker had attacked them then they would have happily let him walk away instead of continuing to follow and taunt him and the other people.

There’s more investigation to go, but right now the attackers seem to be the angry rednecks in the video. It’s too bad there isn’t video of the entire thing…with that I think it would be clear Booker was attacked and the rednects are lying.

Whoa, that was an ugly report. I had business in Bloomington yesterday and was listening to the TPM podcast while I was driving there from Indianapolis. It was surreal to hear Kate describing her research into this case while driving through the redneck town of Martinsville, IN (a notorious KKK stronghold) and past the turnoff to Monroe Reservoir.

No wonder the FBI has been called in to supervise this case. Read through the lens of BLM and the summer of 2020, that report makes it obvious that we have a serious problem here in Indiana.

On a positive note, however, I did not see even one Trump sign coming or going. I visited family at a nearby lake and took the scenic route back to Indy today. Even my Republican cousins have disavowed Trump and expressed sympathy for the BLM movement.

As Josh would say, we are living history.

I know, right? We sometimes get pretty detailed summaries of 2 page court orders, but a 68 page police report basically gets a headline?

I’m glad there was some discussion about it, but I wish a little more info had made it into the story.

“Washington’s flag, not Davis’s rag”, isn’t that how the slogan went?
