A federal grand jury in Los Angeles indicted Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE) on charges of lying to federal agents over foreign contributions to his 2016 campaign.
Having foreigners fund your campaign can be so messy sometimes. Poor bastard.
He should resign over this.
But he won’t—and the GQP won’t pressure him about it either.
They’ll complain because he was clumsy enough to get caught doing what they all dream of doing.

The thin skinned, sanctimonious Congressman Fortenberry will try to whine his way out of this. Stay tuned.
He is in a safe Republican district, mostly rural.

But it includes Lincoln (the capital) with a population of about 180,000, and Norfolk, with a population of over 24,000 (ninth largest city in the state) so it cannot be considered mostly rural.
The farm land in the district holds about 10 to 15 percent of the district population.
I went to grad school in Lincoln, so I know a bit about the area.
Fortenberry was just elected in 2020, so he lacks the political skills to know that.
In Nebraska, that would be “Children of the Cornhuskers.”
