I am getting nervious about this years election. My granddaughter is going to be having our first great grandchild the end of October so my wife and I have planned to remain here until early November. That means I need to vote absentee. If that Trump asshole and his fascist DOJ thugs keep me from voting I will be less than pleased. I imagine there are probably millions of other Americans who are going to want to vote absentee for similar reasons. .

Validity is not a concern in the current DOJ. Dominance and confusion are the game, the claim serves the latter, the demand for compliance the former. This is the corruption of democracy in action.

Off topic but WRT duplicity, it appears none of the Republican senators claiming to have spoken with McConnell did so in person (McConnell speaks to Republican leaders as speculation swirls about his health, remains hospitalized). Even assuming their claims are truthful (a dubious assumption), how do we know they were not speaking with an appropriately trained AI?

Watching the World Cup games, it is impossible to avoid stadium ads. Advertising per se is just part of the modern world, but some advertising such as tobacco or ai-agent support are likely off the mark. Then there’s the sugar-drink business. Sugar drinks are harmful to the young male audiences targeted by sport event advertisers.
The problem is not restricted to a single country or region. It’s multinational, like large corporations.
PepsiCo, a Trump supporter, has been particularly bad in this respect. It has flaunted Western sanctions on Russia, preferring to stay in Russia and expand its business. It is responsible for vast amounts of plastic packaging that ends up in the environment. Even men who never consume sugar drinks or salty ultraprocessed foods still may end up with microplastics in their testicles. Add this to other diminishers of sperm quality and quantity, the Trumpian machoman obsession makes sense.

Trump told Mark Rutte in a NATO press conference that “there was a time when we paid 100% of NATO.” He then went on to bash Obama, Biden and even Bush.
In reality, the US, while the largest contributor to NATO’s defense spending, accounted for about 16% of NATO’s total expenditure in 2024 during the Biden administration. Here is a NATO analysis for 2014-2025.
Most of the leaders at the NATO summit are more fact driven, so they don’t need to engage in autocrat conflations. Like Russia, an out-of-control leader signals weakness and fear among the government’s ministers and agency heads. While the media is just going with Trump being Trump, his behavior is symptomatic of more serious governance issues. In any case, reality is coming.

I’ve missed one election in the last twenty-some years, a mayoral run-off when I was unexpectedly hospitalized in another city for a few weeks and could not get around logistics of getting an emergency ballot. But this year, I’m worried. I almost always vote early, sometimes in-person, and have never qualified for an absentee ballot under Texas rules which is a pretty good joke to anyone who knows me. I have a feeling it’s going to be all-out in Texas against blue-city voters this year.

For Every DOJ “Election Monitor" the Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer needs to have a State official follow them to monitor the monitor.
At the first signs of voter intimidation the Governor Needs to have Michigan State Police (MSP) arrest people engaged in voter intimidation on the spot.
