One can hope. On the other hand, Trump’s popularity spread went DOWN 1 point his weekend, from 11% underwater to just 10% down, per 538. Violence in the streets is good for totalitarians like Trump, apparently regardless of the lameness of his response to it.
According to MSNBC, the Trump White House has instructed employees not to come to work on Monday morning. This means the White House has been shut down by the protests. It’s not even clear when or if Donald Trump might come out of the bunker. So at this point there is no President, and there is no functioning White House. Of course we haven’t had a President for three and a half years, so what’s the difference?
OMG this is what happens when you drive the most thoughtful, talented people out of your party. This is what happens when you embrace the hateful scum.
White House spokesperson Judd Deere would neither confirm nor deny whether Trump had taken shelter in the bunker.
“The White House does not comment on security protocols and decisions,” Deere told the Associated Press and the New York Times.
After praising the Secret Service for handling protestors who “got too frisky or out of line” by coming “down on them, hard - didn’t know what hit them,” Trump noted that “nobody came close to breaching” the White House fence. “If they had they would have been greeted with the most vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons,”wrote the president. Totally agree. I’m not fretting or wringing my hands about the optics of protest here. I do hope that it winds down without too much more death and injury, but there is no way around this.
Basically, this means that the protesters could have overrun the WH with just a bit more energy. Wonder if the group heading there today will have digested that tidbit.
Not really a good thing that one of our most sensitive places is that vulnerable to an unarmed crowd.
I’m going to defend my next door neighbors, just as I defend Wisconsin.
They are nice folks. I posted photos over the weekend from the riot site with the streets lined with paper sacks full of groceries and household items that would be loaded into the vehicle of anyone that needed them - probably a quarter of a mile long in the photo. This was done by the locals.
I posted other photos over the weekend of the clean up being taken care of by locals who came in and did the work.
Senator Al Franken, among others, has started funds to be used in the clean up. I made my contribution and, at that time, they’d collected over $ 850,000 because it showed up in his social media as a good thing to do to help.
Remember that the rioters were not locals. The governor himself said easily 80% of them that had been arrested were from out of the area.
And I would also remind you that Ilhan Omar, for all her faults, was elected to the House of Representatives from one of the districts in the Twin Cities region. So it’s not only a good place to be if you’re white. Oh yeah, the State AG is Ellison (who’s black), the mayor of St. Paul is black.
I’ll allow you didn’t know about Minnesota, so here’s a basic primer.
Damn, I swear I just now heard a crowd chanting something like “On the street!” Sounded like some blocks away in the middle of town. Cars honking now. This is in a town of like 2,000.
