Those aren’t the folks who will be swayed by the public hearings. They’re lost permanently.
They’re also less than 18% of the population.
It’s everybody else who will be enthralled, and the hearings should get Dems to get out and vote their collective asses off.

Similar to the failure of the GOP to gerrymander themselves into control of the House(I refuse to believe Dems holding the House is as dire as Josh seems to in his editors blog today) this foot dragging will position Dems in better shape as the final report comes out closer and closer to the November election. It will take more than tourists rioting in the Capitol to keep Madame Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democratic Reps from remaining in control of the House.

Honestly, after watching “Love and the Constitution”, I started thinking about Raskin as a future President. He is as genuine as they come - much like Biden, but without the gaffes. He also understands the merits and fragility of democracy. The best President of the last 50 years, Obama, was a Constitutional scholar, why not another one like Raskin ?

If the J6 Committee chooses this prudent path they had best prepare the public in advance. Our culture is corrupted by expectations of fireworks, instant gratifications, battles by super stars and happy endings. Note our daily distraction from the “I can’t wait. If it doesn’t happen now, it’s too late.” crowd. We want the villains to do time. That requires threading a careful path. I’m guessing that’s the intent. Fascinating to watch the unfolding.

I expect that the committee is mostly letting the staff lawyers handle the questioning. And I would not expect them to do anything like the customary 5 minutes per member at the public hearings. Those should be pre-packaged presentations of the witnesses and the supporting docs, much like what you would see a prosecutor do at at criminal trial. And thanks to Kevin McCarthy’s idiocy, there won’t be any members of the Trumptard Caucus there to fuck it up.
