I remember a long time ago reading this phrase in a book - “Don’t you worry about trouble. Trouble will be along real soon now”
And it’s not just a drip, drip sort of thing.
They’re getting documents by the truckload and testimony by the hours and days from people who know a lot.
I can’t wait to see how many times, Rudy, Jr., Slender Man and the Princess have memory loss. Not to mention countless others too numerous to add here. The “I don’t recall” will be a great drinking game, good thing I’m retired and don’t have to get up for work the next day
rhinestone-encrusted, no less.
It’s a mess, aint it Sheriff?
If it aint it’ll do till a mess gets here.
Cormac McCarthy, [No Country for Old Men]
In a rather weirdly disgusting way, it will be entertaining watching Trump having tantrums on a daily basis as each new day brings its revelations. Trump’s handlers better be on their toes, as he is likely to further implicate himself old crimes, and reveal new ones, as his rage boils over.
There may be a gold, embroidered straight jacket in his future.
Even though Raskin is 59, He would be a sterling choice if Biden gets to name another SCOTUS justice.
And it would both frighten and piss off Republicans.
The message could not be clearer: Hearings in the Spring and an interim report well in advance of the mid-terms. I care less about the details at this point than the topography, if you will, of the field of battle. All parties can now make plans with some sense of the sequence of events. Let’s note the graceful bows by Raskin and Thompson to civil discourse in a democracy implicit in their public signaling of the J6 Committee expected timetable.

It’s been said before, never bet against a Cheney in a knife fight.
She scares me - and I ain’t fraid of nuthin!

Just noting here that the original timeline was looking at the end of Feb, now we’re seeing April or May for starting public hearings.
I’m kinda thinking that means that the investigation is getting a lot more material than they anticipated.
I believe the technical term they used was ‘firehose’ worth of material.
Put bluntly, I think they should give a quiet ultimatum to the GOP - continue to refuse working with us on legislation (BBB, electoral reform, etc) and we’ll just dedicate all that free time to the Jan6 commission work. A public announcement of the committee considering doubling the amount of staff involved should help get the point across.
I can see a few people scratching their heads over Raskin’s comment. If you are paranoid, it would end up being an itch you can’t scratch.
Maybe something from Cat Stevens to settle those nerves.
Trouble
Oh trouble move away
I have seen your face
And It’s too much for me today
Trouble
Oh trouble can’t you see
You have made me a wreck
Now won’t you leave me in my misery

Time to count how many paid days off that I have available.
I’ll be working from home.
Just a caveat here. Without question, the Jan 6 Committee has obtained the cooperation of hundreds of witnesses who could testify regarding the actions before, during, and after the insurrection. Also clearly, several witnesses have invoked their 5th Amendment right not to incriminate themselves, and some members of the Committee have openly discussed rejecting those claims and compelling testimony subject to referral to the Justice Dept.
It’s worth remembering Oliver North, who was a major actor in Reagan’s plan to send arms to Iran through a Central American country for the purpose of freeing the hostages taken during the storming of the American Embassy in Teheran. During the Congressional investigation, North was called to testify by the committee, and in the face of his invocation of his 5th Amendment rights, the committee granted him use immunity, under which neither his testimony nor any evidence derived from his testimony could be used against him. Instead, the only evidence that could be used against such a witness is evidence “independently obtained” from sources not derived from the testimony. (For those who have not had the privilege of a law school education, the relevant Supreme Court decision is Kastigar.
North was later convicted for his conduct during Iran-Contra, but his conviction was reversed by the DC Circuit because the evidence used against him was derivative and its independent origins could not be established.
The Jan 6 Committee has a large bunch of really smart lawyers, members and staff, and I’m sure they’re aware of all this. If it seems they’re reluctant to hold someone in contempt for invoking the 5th Amendment, this is potentially the reason. My guess is they will believe they have enough evidence without the testimony of the major actors, including TFG.
Republicans are in line to get the benefit of the off year election. I wonder if they have thought about the impact of the timing of public hearings on their election chances. I mean they blundered into “normal political discourse” which was a totally unforced error.

Thompson told Bloomberg News that “maybe a series of hearings” is on the table,
Death of a thousand cuts, smart move.

This Committee had better get it right. Not sure how many more chances we have to tell the truth and save the country.
Even if the committee gets it right and true, we might not “save the country” anyway. This may not be the linchpin some may anticipate it to be. My bet is that such hearings will have the effect of hardening established opinion, but perhaps more Democrats will be encouraged to vote.
I am disappointed to have to wait, but the closer the live hearings are to the midterm elections, the better for Democrats. These hearings will flay the GQP.

Well, guess the garden is gonna get off to a rough start this spring…
Wait a minute, I thought there is a multitude of migrants crossing the border, just so you don’t have to tend to your own garden?
These hearings will be seen around the world. EVERYONE wants to see Trump’s comeuppance.
Yep. Even the “don’t recalls” and “5ths” will be preceeded by damning questions that strongly suggest why the response is being dodged.
