In 2020, Georgia stood out: a red state in which top officials bucked President Trump’s demand to overturn his election loss. Tuesday’s GOP primaries suggested Georgia’s relative independence from Trump’s reactionary movement may be coming to an end. Election deniers went one and two in the GOP primary for governor, ending the gubernatorial bid for…
Raffensperger, Who Wouldn’t Steal Election For Trump, Loses Governor Race to Two Election Denialists
So this really looks like we have at least one purple state where the state government will go to the wall to fix the election for the GOP.
Will November be too late to rescue the Republic?
Governor race. He was a long shot as it was. In the dumpy cult it’s a requisite. Dems can win this race. What do you think about Bottoms’s chances? I’m in tune to NJ politics but not GA’s.
I am not surprised that Trump is winning all the Republican primaries. God knows Trump has run off all the principled Republicans like Raffensperger and Massie. .
And Gabe Sterling, who is Raffensperger’s reasonably competent second in command, got curbstomped in the race to replace Raffensperger as SOS. The GOP is a cult–which we all knew, but which becomes clearer (and more frightening) every day.
Raffensperger just found out doing the right thing holds no water for the MAGA GOP.
So instead of laboratories for democracy states can be laboratories against it. It would appear our experiment with national political parties has reached its nadir; taking one over gives a monster a lot of leverage.
In my opinion, Raffensperger and Kemp did the right thing primarily because kowtowing to Trump would leave them legally exposed. There simply wasn’t a pathway that allowed them to do Trump’s bidding without putting themselves in serious jeopardy. They only look good in comparison to other Republican politicians–and that’s saying damn little.
Dixie: “Been there, done that.”
Government of some of the people, by some of the people and for some of the people. US low-turnout voting reflects the hardships and demands of voting as well as feeling that voting doesn’t matter. The Georgia GOP governor’s primary garnered around 800,000 votes in a state with a population over 11 million, a voting-age population over 8 million, and total registered voters in excess of 5 million. The US seems tied to a second-best equilibrium, where institutional inefficiencies are assumed. It also allows for the promotion of kooky policies. Eisenhower, who served as president before major civil rights and voting legislation, would nevertheless be stunned by the passivity of modern Americans with regard to participation in governance.

Trump corruption is running on a compressed schedule. The Iran War, which was supposed to last 2 days is now completing its 3rd month, Trump approval continues to decline, and some scams, such as the hijacking of monetary policy, are failing to launch or even combusting on the launch pad. So Greenland annexation , Ronald Lauder’s pet ask, won’t die. Jeff Landry was in Nuuk this week. The timing is completely driven by Trump’s time-decay delta trajectory, and likely nothing else.
A good tracker of Trump desperation is the 30-year Treasury rate, It has risen since the Iran War started and is now over 5%, suggesting bondholders are pessimistic about US future prospects. It was long treated as a risk-free instrument. Easy money.
Hey Jersey! Was born at the foot of the GW Bridge. Raised in Bloomingdale then did HS in the boonies of Blairstown.
Worked many years in Morristown until I was exiled to SJ. Now in Washington Twp of Gloucester County. The bosom of suburbia
ATL was alright, they can keep the rest of it.
I puked out the window of a taxi in 1970 in Copenhahen when I was 11
Cab driver was pissed, Mom said “at least the kid got his head out the window” LOL!
And 70% of Repubs support Trump’s recent antics. 70%.
I wonder if Trump has run off the principled Republican voters as well. What remains may be all in for Trump, but how many are left?
Ever been to Texas?
Mom escaped before I was born and I am eternally grateful
The Company had a plant in Orange TX
On the list of ugliest places I’ve ever been.
I was thinking that sort of too. That some of these losses are actual conservatives sticking to their guns, as they are thinking about a post Trump future?
You’ve been all over the Garden state perimeter! So many towns here in Jersey. I discover a new one every week. My favorite town name is West New York, NJ. (And so many municipalities, police and fire depts, schools, and people wonder why our taxes are so high! Ha.) How is Gloucester? … Still never been to Cumberland Co. I hear parts are like 1800s.
Ironically (not really) it’s the economics that is totally sinking the failed businessman/reality TV businessman President.
Dumpy can celebrate his anointed primary victories now. That’s all the repubs will have to celebrate when a lot of these numbskull boot licking newbies lose their general elections.
