Race Remains Tight As Vote Tallying In Key Swing States Continues | Talking Points Memo

Happy post-Election Day, everyone!

The race between President Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden remains tight. As of right now, Biden holds a narrow lead over Trump in electoral votes after Fox News and the Associated Press projected a win in Arizona for the former vice president.

Hah. I thought the exact same thing when I read that.

I haven’t slept a wink. Its gonna be another long day I suspect. It may be one full of misplaced and premature recriminations and a lot of people jumping the gun to declare tRump’s superior ground game and Biden’s “weakness” if I know how the talkingheads often deal with it. The never-tRumpers may even get scared, tuck tail and go back to blaming the Dems for not doing this, that and the other thing. I don’t understand how you can blame Biden for what bad polling in some states may have shown if its so off the mark to begin with. The media uses those polls a lot and convinces the public that they are what we should depend on as an actual barometer of what the races will look like. Could it be that polls no longer reflect the people they reach out to?

I don’t know. Just frustrated and tired.

Gary Peters is running behind Mr. Nobody here right now by a couple of percentage points, but rather than worry I still say Michigan will go for Biden and Peters’ numbers will also improve when the mail in ballots are counted. It already looks like the Dems made up for the 11,000 vote deficit they had in 2016 that tRump got when some counties up in the U.P. went for Biden this time, and that’s based on the actual vote counts for in-person voting.

Also Justin Amash’s old seat has been won by the scion of the Meijer grocery chain. Another privileged white male asshole that hasn’t done anything close to what his opponent had as a public servant. But hey, he comes from money so that’s all these Republicans seem to care about.

The good news is that the Michigan Supreme Court has two Democratic candidates leading and that could flip the court to a Democratic majority I believe.

Eh. “We’ll see what happens”.

Morning, everyone. I managed to sleep a few hours, dreamed that Biden had won, and then woke up. It took all the moral courage I posses to pick up my phone and have a look.

Damn. Only got ~5 hours sleep but my math tells me that if Biden keeps every state already called and takes NV, WI & MI, that’s 270 and ballgame over, and doesn’t need PA, NC or GA. If he takes PA or GA then he doesn’t need MI or NC. If he only takes NC but not MI, PA or GA, it’s over as NC is one EC vote short.

If Trump wins this, it’ll be via ballot manipulation and the courts. But we all know that. He’s already halfway there, with the APPARENT vote a lot closer than we’d expected and hoped, close enough that the courts can throw it for him. None of this is happenstance. It was all planned well ahead of time at the micro level. They had a plan to exclude just enough ballots in all the right places to make it just close enough without it being blatant enough theft that the courts would do something about it. We all knew this, now it’s actually happening, as feared. But will it succeed? Don’t make me answer that.

I don’t know but things don’t look all that good for the House or Senate either.

If all the properly cast and where applicable mailed or dropped off ballots are received, properly counted AND allowed to count by the courts, Biden wins. But that’s three points of potential failure for him and they’ve clearly been working all three, on TOP of voter suppression and intimidation and targeted smear campaigns. They’ve literally got every potential avenue of election theft covered, and perhaps some we don’t even know about, like voting or tabulation machine tampering.

I have a bad feeling about this.

Amen, sister kelaine. I’m hanging on. In fact, I’m dreading having to talk to my son and admit he may have been right about well, anything at this point. The longer I can hold off and see things improve, I may just be able to use the old familiar “I told you so” in my defense if Biden does what I think he will. I’m still hopeful, just darn tired. My mind has obviously been working overtime but the rest of me is so pooped. Michigan results may come in Thurs now instead of Friday. They’re really pulling it together with an army of tabulators.

The one I hope is resolved today is a contempt charge against Dejoy when he has a hearing at noon today, and when he has to show cause for why he wouldn’t follow the judge’s order to sweep the P.O. sorting facilities for the ballots in key states in Democratic strongholds around the country. 300,000 in total. He blatantly defied the judge. That should not be allowed to happen.

I’m clinging to the projected map at 270towin. You can’t link to it directly, but they have a tab that allows you to flip from called to projected totals. The projected total has Joe getting to 279 w/o Arizona, Georgia or North Carolina.

If I think of anything else, I won’t be able to function.

There needs to be more pushback on the claims of “late votes” and “newly discovered votes” and point out these weren’t counted earlier because of Republican legislative rules. I’ve heard it occasionally, but not nearly enough and definitely needs to be louder.

Anyone else think that Schumer needs to step down as Senate Dem leader?

I’ve mentioned this before.
There are some Trump supporters who deliberately mislead pollsters to prove Trump’s claim that polls are fake. One can’t believe polls in the age of Trump. My neighbor let it slip in 2016 that he would mislead pollsters if asked. Although he’s a brain dead Trump supporter, he said he would indicate otherwise if asked.
If you have an average ten year old, they will make better decisions and do better in every other area than him. So he did not come up with this on his own. He’s not smart enough not to fall for nearly every scam out there for the last 8 years that I’ve been talking to him. If I could go back in time, I’d would now counsel him to send in his financial information to get that government money he need only to apply for in order to receive. Or about a half dozen other scams he told me about.
He got this idea about deceiving pollsters from someone.
Why? If all polls are wrong, it’s easier to steal elections in the future because polling has never been accurate anyway. That’s the only motivation for deceiving pollsters I can figure out.
