End of an era. I suspect that most of us have no recollection of a British monarch other than QE2.

As monarchs go, she was better than most.

Everyone on the BBC right now is wearing all black. I’m afraid they’re just waiting for the family to gather.

There are extensive protocols for when she passes.

She seemed to deteriorate rather quickly.

Sadly, it’s not unusual for close married couples to die within a year of each other.

It happens frequently enough that geneaologists knowing the death date of a spouse first look +/- a year for the death certificate of the other spouse.

Yep. Happened with my parents - 10 months apart. You lose one, you lose them both.

My father’s parents too.

It’s amazing just how much they prop each other up. My dad was determined to hang on until my mom passed - he was her caregiver. He didn’t succeed (I finished the job) but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

It’s time to STFU.

It is time for monarchies to go.

It works for the Brits.

It has to do with age of each of course, but after the death of a spouse the remaining spouse somewhat lives the rest of her life waiting to die because life as she knew it has ended.

We have the synergy thing going on. I tried to be nice but yeah, STFU! is more appropriate.

Death of almost anyone requires empathy at least in the moment.

We were afraid we were going to lose my father within a few months of my mother. Between dating and marriage, they had been together for 65 years.

She died of Alzheimer’s and we let my father know just how much he meant to us and how we still needed him as we all grieved.

He passed peacefully in his sleep 18 months later.
