In my mind, a “strong leader” is inconsistent with a “liar”. When someone lies (and are later discovered) it shows that they are too weak to be honest, or at least too weak to maintain their lie.
I don’t know how this isn’t seen as weakness by others - it’s why I always saw Trump was one of the weakest leaders in US history, same with Putin and Xi in their respective countries.
Let me just throw this out there: maybe the poll is pure garbage?
Putin’s Public Approval Is Soaring During Russia-Ukraine Crisis
In the United States, right?
Of course, custom ordered by Putin himself. He is a dictator, after all, and as we have seen, anyone in Russia who speaks ill of Putin in any way just disappears.
Haven’t we seen this movie before in 1938?
Just the the evangelical right wing, they love being told how to think by their leaders.
Papa Joe, Papa Joe, now we see what’s going on behind those aviators.
What deal did you cut with Putin to invade Ukraine to boost your ratings here at home with a good old-fashioned European war against russia…
We’re just starting with this.
Popular and War seem so oxymoronic
But that book is much shorter than "War and Peace".
Wars can be popular, but only if they’re fought by other people, somewhere else.
“Putin’s Public Approval Is Soaring During Russia-Ukraine Crisis.”
But enough about Republicans…
Well they are being fed a constant feed of lies, will be interesting to see what the public mood is once their is more of a impact on body count and economic toll.
Back to Russia: It is a very sick country, even sicker than the USA, and that’s saying something.
I have a motto (which is a bit of a joke but holds some truth), “never compete with the Russians, whether the competition is for good or evil or anything in between: they will out-do you.”
?
Pressed 4 time, but while Russia (all of it’s incarnations) aren’t perfect, it’s not wise to compare them to the US n vice versa,
O/T What!!!
Prosecutors Leading Trump Fraud Investigation in NY Resign - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
The two prosecutors leading the Manhattan district attorney’s investigation into former President Donald J. Trump and his business practices abruptly resigned on Wednesday amid a monthlong pause in their presentation of evidence to a grand jury, according to people with knowledge of the matter, throwing the future of the high-stakes inquiry into serious doubt.
The prosecutors, Carey R. Dunne and Mark F. Pomerantz, submitted their resignations after the new Manhattan district attorney, Alvin Bragg, indicated to them that he had doubts about moving forward with a case against Mr. Trump, the people said.
Says a prayer for Mr. Bragg.
I’d be surprised if the average Russian, particularly rural, have any idea what’s going on at the border. RT and the rest of the propaganda machine has only shown what Putin allows. In this case the rescue and evacuations of ethnic Russians due to terrorism. Up until Monday, there was no reporting of troop build ups etc.
I think all poll results from this single-source pollster are suspect. It is like relying on Rasmussen polls only. As @caltg points out, Russia is also not exactly an open society where one can speak freely against the dictator. Look at Putin’s detractors, now either dead from open windows, poison, or in jail.
The TPM article is also flawed. Putin’s approval is not “soaring” during the Ukraine crisis. 69% approval now (actually Jan 2022) vs 61% in Aug 2021 is cherry-picking the reference date. Putin’s approval (in the mid 60s) has been relatively flat since 2018, and was 65% or greater 6 times in 2021. Additionally, the latest poll number of 69% is for January, but the Ukraine crisis has been largely in February. As the article states, Russians didn’t know much about the Ukraine build-up until mid - Feb.
“But few people in Moscow heard the drumbeat of war until mid-February.”
