One year ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin took one of his final public steps towards war against Ukraine.
After the war began and much of the world imposed sanctions on Russia, Putin declared that those fleeing his country were actually being “expelled from” the country’s body-politic, and accused them of being obsessed with slurping oysters and foie gras.
uh-huh
Putin Family Values: Making hundreds of thousands of new widows and orphans.
I have a chicken or egg question.
From the article:
“Now, in a new speech one year later, he remains defiant — but has added into his rhetoric ever-more-heaping doses of culture war tropes that for American listeners might sound familiar, pushing a dark worldview and conspiracy theories of the sort favored by Tucker Carlson and the U.S.’s right-wing religious fringe.”
So is Putin getting his cues from Tucker or is Tucker getting his cues from Putin?
One need only remember that Adolf Hitler made similar “Christian” rationalizations in support of his acts and as diversionary arguments to cloak his aggression and criminal acts. Other autocrats have done the same.
Feedback loop.
Both
Culture war isn’t just an American thing.
Nicky 1 and his grandson, Alexander 3rd hugged the cross like it was a blue blanket.
In a speech on Feb. 21, 2022, he moved to recognize the independence of two Russia-backed proxy states in Ukraine — and, in doing so, suggested that war was inevitable.
Now, in a new speech one year later, he remains defiant
And the world didn’t take his advances in Europe that seriously, either, until it was too late.
Western right-wingers don’t seem to realize that matching their rhetoric with the lead war criminal in the world isn’t helping their cause.
Bring it on, Vladimir. I relish the chance to use Putin as the poster boy for fascist projection, and to tar our own fascists at home with the same brush as hypocrites who commit every sin they accuse us decadent liberal seculars of. Pedophilia? I’ve heard stories about the parties at Putin’s dacha in Sochi with Berlusconi. Russian oligarchs are the world’s biggest child traffickers by far. Traditional values like what? Unprovoked wars of aggression? Genocide? Fuck them and the whited sepulchers they came in on.
Does it really matter who’s on top in a fascist 69?
Anti-Semitism ran all through Europe for centuries, Hitler made it okay to take it public and use violence. Moreover, however much I admire FDR, and I do, he was the president overly influenced by the Southerners in Congress to not expand Jewish immigration in order to get out of Germany ahead of Hitler’s full throated takeover. They were anti-Semites but FDR needed their votes to get his agenda through Congress.
Which is the bigger problem? “Gay parades” in the West or widespread bombing, massacres and torture of civilians in Ukraine as the Russian invasion goes into its second year?
He was checking to see if the kid had an innie or an outie belly button? Better that than being kissed anywhere on his face.
It’s this photo plus the raging homophobia and phony charges of pedophilia that raise the prospect of projection.
