Prosecutors Have 20 Phones Still To Crack In Parnas Case | Talking Points Memo

Could be worse stuff about him on the phones too.

Iā€™d go with 911, or if thereā€™s a minimum length, 911man.

What is the record for indictments of Presidential accomplices?

He doesnā€™t have a deal, yet, as far as we know. Any uncracked devices are leverage for him. This of course assumes Barrā€™s DOJ actually wants him to talk instead of burying him alive in a supermax. Parnasā€™ best strategy may be to delay events past Jan 20 and seek a deal with a DoJ under a new admin.

Another one of Levā€™s buds was close to signing a 5 year deal with the San Francisco VA on medical pot.

Almost a certainty.

I donā€™t disagree. But thereā€™s no way investigators canā€™t crack. Itā€™s just a question of how much Barr puts his thumb on the scale at DOJ (hint: ā€œA LOTā€).

Precisely.

20 phones? Are you kidding me? Iā€™ve got to get the brand name of the belt he wears.

The greater the number of phones, the bigger the criminal probably applies here.

It says something about ā€œdefendantsā€ also, but it would definitely be extremely helpful to explain whether Lev is a part-time phone salesman, and/or who owns this rather extensive collection.

Maybe Parnasā€™ game is that he knows Trump will likely not be reelected and his case is going to drag out into a new administration that will be friendlier to someone who helped bring Trump down. It might be a smarter play than counting on a Trump pardon. I am guessing the evidence of criminal activity is overwhelming. So far he is only giving what the government already has anyway and is not by any means ā€œcooperating,ā€ which would require a full disclosure including passwords. The coy theatrics of dribbling out information is clearly to keep him relevant while retaining the hope that the government cannot crack his other devices.

I donā€™t find anything Parnas and his lawyer have done to be inconsistent with my theoryā€¦he is just peddling furiously to keep ahead of Chump and Barr. Anything that keeps him visible, in the news, and relevant can help keep him from getting Epsteined. There were other plays he could have made, but many of those put him completely in the clutches of Barr.

OK. I live a modest life and I know that others on the forum are movers and shakers - so Iā€™m asking any tycoons among you - do you have 20 phones? Iā€™m not savvy about international banking - but that seems like an awful lot of phones.

Need a lot of burner phones when your waist deep in crime and grift.

I have about 7 phones, only one of which works (actually I think the iphone One still boots). Parnas may have that situation where he never disposed of the obsolete phones.

Every time I enter this country I carry a different dead phone. It confuses them when I donā€™t want it back.

Maybe Parnas and Fruman were just the phone bagmenā€¦

One can only presume that the White House and McConnnell felt that:
a) the bad p/r resulting from a sham trial is less than the bad p/r that would result if the information got out
b) they can hold off the exposure of most of the bad p/r until after the election, and by that time, they would hopefully (from their perspective) hold the executive branch and doj to control any investigation

I donā€™t have time to look up the article again, but it was my impression they had 20 phones, but they werenā€™t all Parnasā€™. And getting the passwords wasnā€™t just a matter of Parnas spilling them.

Might also be laptops or other random toys, although those are typically not hard to crack.

My father died of cancer of the larynx. Plenty of vitriol from him over the decades. Mom and I discussed the irony of the situation. He and I were estranged the last 16 years of his life.
